End the Illegal Occupation...

Postby bill cobbett » Sun Mar 02, 2014 4:03 pm

... of the Crimea/ "southern" Ukraine...!!!

Here's something we might all agree on...

As you'll all know, several thousand Russian troops have broken treaties by moving out of their barracks and have seized airports, regional government buildings, broadcasting facilities and have dug in to seal the Crimea from the Free Areas of the Ukraine and are continuing to build up the invasion force on land and at sea.

We've all seen this before, a large and more powerful country, another Regional Bully, using the pathetic excuse of "protecting its interests" or "protecting its alleged language group" to seize a part of another country, even though not a single member of the alleged ethnic group has been harmed.

Russia, the leftover plate-scrappings of the totalitarian Soviet Union has, to all intents and purposes, Illegally Invaded a part of another country and by so doing crapped on the Sovereignty, Independence and Territorial Integrity of the Ukraine; and of course put the UN Charter through the shredder.

The situation in the Crimea is desperately and appallingly tense. The Ukrainian defence forces have shown tremendous restraint so far. Let us pray that Tzar Putin comes to his senses and withdraws his forces and his Declaration of War.

So question... Are we all agreed that Russia should End its Piss Operation and remove all its forces from any part of Ukrainian Sovereign Territory.... ???

yes... Russia should remove her troops from ukranian territory. A regional bully trying to control a smaller/weaker sovereign state with force and intimidation, it sounds familiar

Well, yes, it's a matter that has to be considered file and we might do that in a more focused way thus...

Earlier this pm, the USA Secretary of State, John Kerry gave an interview in which he said that Russia has gone back to the 19th Century practise of invading and occupying sovereign countries. He accused "... the Russian leader of acting “in 19th-century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped-up pretext”.

Mr Kerry does seem to have a very poor knowledge of another invasion and occupation on trumped-up charges in the region.

So, yes, let's have some frigging consistency please Mr Kerry...!!!

I'm not taking sides because any invasion to me is wrong.

But.....
Crimea is autonomous.
Ethnic Russians make up 60% of the population.
Unlike Turkey, the Russians have at least this to their advantage.
The Ukrainian internal fu**up led to Russian invasion.

Suddenly it's ok for your orthodox Russians to do exactly what turkey done but the difference was turkey is a quarantor but Russia is not. It's interesting to see how GCS see their allies the Russians who during 1974 were putting pressure on turkey to withdraw back to the agreed green line. Russia is going in to protect its interests be it their people or strategic purposes and that's exactly what turkey done. Same as what the Brits done in Falklands. I will enjoy reading GC s view point here when their Russian comrads will be doing exactly what turkey done
