Left Cyprus 50 years ago!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

I, as well as others like me, have every right to be concerned about our birth country, our wonderful island.

Two important factors made a big difference in your case Milti…

1. A successful business giving you the financial freedom to make frequent trips and be a homeowner in two or more places.

2. A convenient short distance to and from your adopted country.

But imagine if you were a wage or salary earner (now on a pension) and living 10,000 miles away in a place like the US or Australia…

Under these circumstances, and as we say in Cypriot… “Enna kamis mavra mathkia na dis don dobo sou!”

I agree that being 4.5 hours away, and being able to use competitive airlines helps one be in constant touch with ones motherland.

Over the years I have never been that "far" from Cyprus. My grandchildren, born and living in Cyprus, are a real magnet for me as they are the most important people in my life.

I can not wait when I settle permanently in Cyprus, alas, I have commitments here in the UK that force me to remain.

Incidentally, I know that Cyprus is not in the world cup, but I have made a deal with a Brazilian who assures me that Brazil is really Cyprus, so its Brazil for the ...WC, although I shall be supporting England, albeit they haven't a chance in hell!!!

Cyprus for me its undoubtedly the best place in the universe, I love the weather, I love the people, not ...you though since you are a plonker

I agree.

Yeah, I kinda agree with that… if someone’s been gone for 50 years what the hell are they doing here?

I mean they made their choices and stuck with them for half a century… why reminisce and torture yourself?

They remind me of Marcel Proust who wrote “Remembrance of Things Past”

One can never forget one's mother no matter where one is!

If you move to another country, marry a local girl there (or two), have kids, grandkids, etc, and use up 50 years of your life then I can tell you with 100% accuracy that it’s well and truly… OVER!

So here’s something dedicated to those for whom Cyprus is so over…

You’ve been gone too long baby… you gotta be realistic! :)

Then how do you explain that we are still here if your above statement is true?

Perhaps it's because we never left Cyprus in the first place voluntarily is the reason why it isn't........... OVER!

It’s over in the following sense:

Having invested so much overseas (well half a century’s worth) and having reached the ripe old age of 65ish, there’s as much chance as you having a life here again in Cyprus (under any of your desired political solutions) as there is in VP doing a 180 degree turn and supporting enosis with Greece! :)

How’s that for a contrast?

In other words Kiakpu, you are “here” in this virtual “Cyprus” we call the CF because it’s the best “Cyprus” you’ve got… but of course it’s nothing more than a computer located somewhere in the US (funnily enough the CF is closer to you than to us here in Cyprus) where one can log onto and pretend to be in Cyprus by talking about Cyprus!

It’s sad but true… :?

Speaking for myself, I am making a full circle, that I was born in Cyprus and fully experienced the 1963 era, then was taken to Turkey for 2 years, then taken to UK and grew up there until deciding to go to the states where I lived for 25 years and for the last 10 years have been living in Switzerland.

As you can see, the circle is almost complete. It is only a matter of time! :D

I am here to promote dialog. the dialog that we need as Cypriots to overcome the impasse put out before us.

...I may die here in Canada, I may never be able to return, it does not stop me from being active, and is irrelevant whether I am in Cyprus or not. for close to thirty years I had to remain silent, without a means to communicate, the internet and this Forum are great liberators in that sense.

it has been a pleasure for the most part to debate, and to express myself. I have changed because of the writers I've spoken with, although my convictions remain unchanged, my commitment to ending "this" has been redoubled.

GR you are so right, its over, finished for those that have been residing aborad for 50 plus years, this home of Cyprus North or South is no longer theirs. I reversed that and came to live in Cyprus over 20 years and this is my home until I die.....they have just not accepted that they are no longer part of the island.
