TURKEY TO JOIN FIGHT AGAINST ISIS ?

Postby miltiades » Thu Oct 02, 2014 8:28 am

"Turkey is ready to join a possible ground operation against ISIS, said the president. Once a reluctant partner, his remarks follow meetings with U.S. officials in New York. Turkey's parliament will vote later this week to authorize cross-border operations in Syria and Iraq."

Having had his arm twisted by the Americans, Turkish President now announces Turkish readiness to join the coalition. The Americans are happy, BUT, Turkish parliament has to approve first.

I will stick my neck out and say that Erdogan behind doors will influence a NO vote for Turkish action. I believe the Turkish parliament will vote against.

If Im wrong then be it, but I just can not see the Turkish parliament favouring action against their cousins, its a bit like GR and Vordo joining the coalition to fight their brothers !!

I will stick my neck out and say that Turkey's parliament will vote yes. Turkey has moved a long way in direction of being a one-party state under the dictatorship of one man. Erdoğan's party has the majority in parliament and will dance to his tune.

Turkey will not fight Isis . If they do it will be limited and only because they will want to save face within the west..

Tim, Erdogans party has the majority, but will Erdogan behind closed doors insist on a Yes vote ? Is he simply trying to please the Americans and if a No vote develops he can justify this by claiming that Parliament democratically voted No.
It would indeed be interesting to see Turkey fighting their brothers ..

Im still convinced that Turkey will not join the coalition, if wrong then I will accept an error of judgement on my behalf, but I think I will be right.

Tim was right and I was wrong.
I misjudged the resolve of Turkey to join the coalition and fight these savages.

Vordo is angry that his ...mama will now send its troops to confront the menace by the barbarians, Oh dear, so angry he is that he puts the blame squarely on .....America.

Old boy, your stupidity has no bounds. Are you going to join ISIS with your brother and fight against Turkish troops ?

So it looks as if most Muslim nations and Muslim leaders the world over have joined the fight against the barbarians, the entire world in fact apart from ...Vordo the prick and his half brother the psycho

There is no way that Erdoğan was going to lose face and have his own party vote against him in parliament when he has just been elected president and is trying to consolidate his one-man rule from this technically ceremonial position. The release of the hostages (or I am inclined to say "so-called hostages" because I believe that the whole thing was staged to give Turkey a pretext for not taking action) showed clearly that change was on the way.

As I have said before, I suspect this may be a new move by the Turkey-Qatar-Saudi Arabia axis to gain a tactical advantage now they have been pressurised into taking action. The way that Erdoğan stresses that the target must be as much the Assad regime as ISIL is telling, I think.

I don't think you necessarily misjudged the resolve of the Islamist Erdoğan regime. It was obvious that the Turkish parliament, controlled by Erdoğan's party, would vote the way he told them. What lies behind this decision is another matter. I doubt that one regime that is imposing Islamisation by force in one country, albeit by slower and less brutal means, is going to oppose another movement that is doing the same elsewhere.

I am not so sure about that, re goumbare. The PKK has sent its forces into northern Iraq and they have joined the Peshmerga in fighting ISIL. ISIL appears to be committing genocide against Kurds regardless of whether they are Sunni or not. Meanwhile, the important Kursdish city of Kobane in Syria looks like it is about to fall, which is worrying indeed.
