Food Glorious Food, Cyprus Food my no. 6 of my PLs

Be it just bread halloumi olives and tomatoes or a splendid Souvla with all the trimmings, a wonderfully fresh Greek salad famous the world over, Cypriot food is my all time favourite food.

My late wife learned to cook a few Cypriot dishes but it was mostly left to me to make Makaronia tou fournou, sheftalia, kioftedes, fasolia and other traditional Cypriot dishes. My love for cooking has intensified as the years have gone by, I just love the whole process of preparing a feast consisting of many varieties.

Strange that having been in the UK for as long as I have, more than half a century, I still have my Sketo every morning, still cook Koutchia with Lahana, Fasolia, Louvi mavromati Fatchi and so many other dishes.

When in Cyprus, and when in season, I enjoy nothing more than a bowl of karaolous, just lemon mixed with oil salt and pepper, also goes down well with ameletita on the BBQ,

I Cook every day , not repetitive dishes , never eat fast foods, being a diabetic I watch what I eat.

Alas, I can no longer eat baklava, kateifi or other Cypriot sweets but I make up with fruits.

Not sure when olive oil was first used in Cypriot cuisine but the guy, or woman who discovered it must have been a ....god !!!

Encouraged by the high number of views I have continued with my Pet Loves, besides it keeps me out of the nastiness of political threads.

Enjoy your Sunday too S x

"Perhaps I'm yearning for the traditional "violi and laouti" weddings of a past era, maybe I'm just old fashioned or simply have not moved on, steeped in the past and the many happy memories of village weddings that lasted 3 days !!
I posted the above just over a year ago.

No social gathering, for me, is more enjoyable than a traditional Cypriot wedding, my no 5 of my PLs.

I appreciate that things have moved on since my childhood growing up in Cyprus, but the sound of a violin playing traditional dance songs still leaves me mesmerized craving for more.

Over the years I have attended many weddings, the best were by far the traditional ones.
Not at all keen of "Hotel weddings" where you present the couple with your wishes and fakellaki and thats about it.

Many years ago I christened my baby daughter in Old Stroumbi and had a big feast in Kato Stroumbi, plenty of traditional foods and music. An event I shall never forget, so enyoyable . We flew from London especially for the Christening, that was 37 years ago, the godmother also from London.
So mayny memories of our wonderful cultural celebrations.

Welcome to the forum Garavnoss and thank you for your kind interest.

My number 4 Pet Love, or rather just plain Love and admiration, as well as passionate appreciation might not come as a complete surprise to those fellow forumers who over the years have come to know most of my views.

I shall reveal later on in the morning.

Was it this story-telling talent of yours which won your love's heart, Milty? :)

Reminds me of Othello's courtship of Desdemona ... :P

My interest stems from curiosity, how does one attract such a vast amount of views in such a short space of time ?.

A quick view of the " views" total number shows that this particular TRUE thread has attracted on average more than 1000 views per day, it is also the most viewed thread since 2007 and one of the all time highest. I think the main reason is that most members are a little fed up with political threads that are mostly repetitive, argumentative and also rather nasty at times., and the fact that this particular thread has remained on the stated subject not deviating or resulting in nasty horrid comments.

I would hate to be boring and I would have stopped inittialy if no interest was evident.

I think my last 4 will be well read but not necessary well received by some.
