There is a remedy which ... would in a few years make all Europe ... free and ... happy. It is to re-create the European family, or as much of it as we can, and to provide it with a structure under which it can dwell in peace, in safety and in freedom. We must build a kind of United States of Europe.

Never truer words spoken !
The risks of another European conflict are far more pronounced with the UK out than in.

In that case what function does NATO perform? :?:

Especially with Boris as foreign secretary!

just two months ago, "a poem he concocted about Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan having sexual congress with a goat won the first-place prize in a contest sponsored by Spectator magazine."

Is this appointment for real, or has he been set up to fail?

Nothing ...iffy about Milti. British through and through !
Born in Cyprus, adopted by the the UK, lived in the UK, still does for over 55 years.

Cares deeply for the country and very concerned at the real prospect of coming out of the EU and entering uncertainty for years to come. You or other supporters of Brexit have thus far failed to inform us of any concrete benefits that this nation and its future generations will derive from being out of the EU. Do tell us Robin, what are the real tangible benefits, none of the nonsense of being in control of our nation blah blah blah. Just one only benefit !!

I apologise ..... it was tongue in cheek ..... I thought you were born here (Cyprus). Anyway you have been there more years than I have ..... so if I am 'one' then so are you ..... Bro!!!!! :D

Advantages: We have cut the ties to an increasingly Federal Europe. In WWII, we and most countries in Europe fought against the concept of the Third Reich ....... and by stealth that is the direction Europe is now heading. We may lose some of the benefits but I see the drawbacks of being in a Federal Europe as untenable and many countries of the 27 are waking up to the fact that they are sleepwalking into the Fourth Reich.

It is going to be tough but I think in the long run it will turn out to be the right decision and in the not too distant future many countries will take the same journey. It could be an easy transition but the EU Commission (European Reichstag ) cannot have that ....... it would set a precedent for others. There are (as I understand 28,000) clauses/agreements embedded in the Lisbon Treaty to be sorted out. This 'treaty' was presented to the Dutch I believe as the EU Constitution and they rejected it in a referendum outright ....... and then it re-emerged as the Lisbon Treaty ....... unchanged! Had I voted I would have voted 'remain' but purely because it was the brainless and selfish safe option. Now the decision has been made to go, I think we should stop all the doom philosophies and MAKE IT WORK but on a time scale that suits us ....... not Junker! :x

This being the case why on earth did Brown and Wilson got on their knees begging Charles de Gaulle to drop his objections, why has it taken 40 plus years to decide that the EU does not serve our interests ?

But then it was the EEC. I don't think One Government, One Constitution, One Central Bank and One Currency ..... were part of the deal then. Those concepts have crept in over time and as I see it was what the referendum was about? How long will it be before Europe has a National Guard with freedom of movement to put down any opposition. I look at the US 'Police' and see a military force and look what is happening there. When it gets out of hand ....... the Police will join with the National Guard to quell any trouble. Would the French allow Germans/Brits/ Italians to act with impunity within their State, directed by yet another state.. Honestly, I can't see that being accepted.

One currency alone has plunged many, especially the Southern States into austerity and poverty. Whereas Germany and the richer Northern States have done very well out of it. I don't think any sane person would walk out on a trade deal but when a Central 'Management' tells you to open your borders to all without being able to be selective, I see that as a step too far. If a country was allowed to apply restrictions based on their necessity for people with certain qualifications, as Australia does, I don't see that as racist ...... just common sense.

I didn’t even mention Spain except as one of the Southern States. In the poverty stakes they come second only to Greece and then not by very much. So I think it is you that is out of touch with reality.

BTW: In life I have noticed that the people I know who are wealthy, some could buy you up out of the petty cash, never boast about it. So I think you are a bit of a fantasist?

The facts about austerity and its effect on the Southern States of Europe are:

Spain unemployment 22.7% - youth unemployment second only to Greece at 43.9%

Greece unemployment 25.6% - youth unemployment 50.4%
