I am and would be happy, as a Cypriot, to have equal or 'minority' rights within a Cypriot nation and state. My problem comes when you say to me we have the right to make you a minority within a Greek state, without you having any effective say in that decision at all. I have a problem with that because it is not about having minority rights within a Cypriot state, because it is not about self determination of Cypriots, because it is about imposing a purely Greek will and desire on me as a Cypriot whilst trying to tell me such is a Cypriot will and desire. Yeah I have a problem with that. Go figure.

I also inevitably have a problem with being told you do not belong here and should just fuck off entirely.

Political equality to an 18% minority is depriving the majority of their rights and giving a minority the right to legislate racist restrictions..this is what a BBF in Cyprus will do

But that's what you want to do to Greek Cypriots, just because they are Gc and Christian. The RoC is a multicultural country with civil rights given to all..Not one group has asked for equal political rights because everyone is the same. The Tc on the other hand want special rights and on top of all the rights they want equal political rights, which will equate them with any majority on Cyprus including having equal say when the majority will not be Gc..if the majority is pro abortion, the Tc want to have equal say in that also.. The RoC is not the country that it was 50 years ago when the Brits decided to give a minority equal political rights, to a majority, with the veto. The heirarchy has changed. The Eu is the majority and Cypriots have to abide by their laws and regulation, including EU primary law..different times, different circumstances, and the Tc are still trying to place a circle in a square peg..

...i won't disagree with Oceanside, he has a point. So far Akinci, and his predecessors, have not presented to the Cypriot people a Cypriot way. Rather, it has been a matter of "Turkishness", it is a matter of dismissing Cyprus for Cypriots, by dividing it, "Greek" (read: not "Turk")/ "Turk". Naturally extremists (because both "Greeks" and "Turks" exist) have held to this Agenda for all these years because it suits them. What has evolved in the interim, is a stronger Cypriot identity, it is clearer to the other half, Cypriots who do not choose the extremes, what harm has been done, and what they have to lose.

...but it is still, up to us; this summer will be a good time to remind the leaders that they may be Greek, or Turkish, as Persons, but that our lives to lead as Individuals is what is on the line.
