i mean honestly........

<<THE MINISTER of Education’s recent circular, issued on January 19, Archbishop Makarios’ name day, has reignited the debate about who is to blame for the intercommunal clashes of 1963-64, which led to the collapse of the Zurich-London agreements. Minister Andreas Demetriou points out that the clashes were provoked by “outlaw and extremist organisations, both Greek and Turkish Cypriot.” This very general reference to an historical event occurring 45 years ago incurred the wrath of members of political parties (other than the Left), the Church and that section of the media that maintains that what happened in 1963 was a Turkish mutiny instigated by foreign centres of power, and that the Greek Cypriots were merely resisting as a legitimate state.

By far the most interesting reaction was that of the secondary school teachers union OELMEK, which issued its own circular and distributed it to schools to “correct” the Education Minister and in which it outlined its own interpretation of the events. >>

This actually proves the the church can have no influence on the Minister of Education, and the Minister himself cannot influence the students.

The one's who CAN and DO influence are the teachers. The teachers (all over the World) are conservative people, who together with the police make up the machine that shapes the young to become good robots like them..
And to become a good robot you must consume all the GC or TC propaganda of the 60s (according to which community you belong), no questions asked.

does it? you have not inheritted one bit of the old greek logic from yhour ancestors.

which other government in the world allows a say to the decision of education minister

and while you are at it, who approves the carriculum if not the education minister. is the education minister that removed to what is going on in school. even if they have some sort of a committee doing it who selects its members.

unbelievable what an average gc believes were you all born in a church

i stil maintain that your average tc teacher is a million times more progressive than the average gc teacher. of course there are exception to every rule there is the odd tc teacher who may not be so progressive at the same we have the odd gc teacher who is quite progressive.

Here she is next to the minister. OK with the white headscarf, but she is also wearing a coat when it is close to 40C in Nicosia. I am sorry, but this is clearly backwards. I understand that Syria is a 3rd world country, but those who move out of such countries searching for a better future should understand that being so fanatic about religion is one of the main reasons their own country was screwed up, and that instead of expecting their host countries to accommodate their backward needs that they instead should make an effort to modernize and assimilate with the local population, at least for the children!

Totally with you on this Sotos. We have drivers covered head to toe. Only visible body parts are a pair of eyes. I look at them and wonder if it's really a woman or a banned man driver? I honestly think the UK is over tolerant. If I was a police officer I would stop every one of them and ask to see their faces to prove it is the licence holder behind the wheel.

When in Rome do as the Romans do as far as I'm concerned. You wanna be backward then stay in your own country.

One thing you guys need to remember, that often these women are controlled by their husbands or fathers for them to maintain their backward traditions whether living in their own country or abroad or else they will be physically and mentally abused more than usual, leading up to “honour killings”. In all reality, it is the men from these backward countries need to be reformed when they come to the west if the women were to stand a chance to be truly free to dress as they like. What woman would want to wear a heavy long coat in a 40 C weather unless they are forced to, directly or indirectly? These women need compassion more than condemnation I believe.

there we agree, they are who they are and more than likely they are brainwashed to do what they do and if they are prevented from doing so, they will feel anguish. just the same as we do not agree wiht is or taliban to rofce people to wear things forcing them not to wear things is equally wrong. it is all bullshit, people are able to wear what ever they feel like so long as it is legal.

I saw her on TV she is so damn beautiful.
No wonder 700 (male?) students were organizing a coup to throw the headmaster out of school.
As for wearing a winter coat, maybe that's the only new/presentable clothe she had for taking a photo next to the Minister.
I'd bet they are poor.

That is why their man want these women not to look attractive to other man so they are forced to cover up head to toe, while the men feast their eyes on the western girls. Bastards the lot of them.
