And ours won't be illegals that you can ask to leave... they'll be permanent residents with CY passports.

You might need to clarify further.

There are only 3 ways you can become a permanent resident with a cy passport.

From cypriot origins.
From marrying a cypriot.
By being naturalized after 7 years of legal residence in cyprus.

How so many people will become permanent residents with cy passports and make Cypriots a minority in 20 years.

How are you getting to circ 1 million of these people in 20 years, excluding the cypriot birth rate.

So if in the last 20 years we’ve probably reached 300k foreigners, do you find it impossible that they’ll increase to 600k in 20 years?

And I’m not just talking about new arrivals but the existing foreigners having babies and multiplying too!

These days you can go up to the most remote mountainous villages of Cyprus and you’ll find foreigners living there and you’ll be like… WTF? How did they ever discover this place? :?

A lot of these foreigners don't and won't fall in to one of those three conditions. Many of them are house maids, that will repatriate, for example.

Secondly, the projected growth of cyprus's total population to 2040 is about 1.35 million, compared to around 1.2 million today.

So no, I can't see it increasing to 600k in 20 years, while the cypriot population stagnates or dwindles.

I suspect like RW you’re living in the diaspora somewhere because you guys are all in denial.

You seem to have no idea of what’s happening here... of the dire demographic straits we’re in!

Anyways... you’ll find out sooner or later and you’ll remember my words.

I get my ideas from the recent census data published last month.

The population grew 9.2% over the last decade.

In the government controlled areas. The population is 918k. About 193k are foreign nationals.

Not all of these foreigners nationals will be eligible for permanent residence and cy passports.

If the population grows by another 20% over the next 20 years, we still don't get to 600k foreign nationals with cy passports.

That’s the 2011 data they’re still using... they’re too embarrassed to update that table!

Nicosia is now full of immigration centers and every working day you’ll find a row of a hundred colorful people lining up outside it!

Sometimes they get so bored waiting from all the delays that they bust the doors open and smash the place up and the cops have to be called in.

The next time you come here you’re going to cry!

...old news, perhaps, Max, but this comment i made might help to answer your question about "Greeks" and Greeks, and, "Turks" and Turks.

…indeed only about half those Turkish in Cyprus are “Turkish”, after all these decades of having torn Cypriots apart. Then same is true with “Greeks” and Greeks.

When considering the Cyprus Problem let’s remember who was murdered and made to disappear for the most part. It was not “Greeks” and “Turks” busying themselves killing each other; those who were not “them” were their victims, for “being” Cypriot.

And let’s remember the coup that successfully removed Makarios from power, failed in less than three days. Without the support of Cypriots who were thought to be “Greeks”, but who instead remained shuttered in their homes. It was overwhelming as a fact, Greeks are not “Greeks” just because they are Greek.

It should be obvious by now that “Greeks” and “Turks” are no different, just as Greeks and Turks are no different.

And in affect the Problem is not one of Greeks vs Turks, or “Greeks” vs “Turks”, but “Greeks” and “Turks” vs Greeks and Turks.

…it is perhaps a hopeful sign that Mr. Akinci did not resign, and that he is running for re-election. I ask, does he have the courage to stand under his Flag, the one the “others” have contempt for, the Flag of Cyprus?
