Actually, Sweden is not alone messing up with Covid-19 by not having a lockdown.

You can add UK and USA for having delayed a lockdown as high new cases & death rates keep on continuing.

Lets not talk about the South American countries whom mostly followed Sweden's plan with bad results, countries like Brasil & Chile. Russia, Mexico, India and few other countries are also paying the high price now.

Perhaps they are hoping to be better prepared for any follow up waves in the future with Covid-19.

...endlessly trying to get information.

...from the responsible individuals incriminating alarm bells, while China continued to resist the warnings.

...instead the WHO continued with their charm offensive (while China lied), which resulted in these disastrous results (with WHO's hands now tied).

...proof, and more to come.

How Sweden "messed up":

Sweden’s economy actually grew in the first quarter after it opted against a full virus lockdown

You are imo simply calling it too early, just as you did with lauding how the ONS were showing no excess deaths. The economic cost if Sweden continues to allow the virus to spread at a rate grater than the rest of the EU are yet to accrue. No doubt if and when that cost is seen in figures you will just bang on about 'discrepancies' in those numbers and how you are 'keeping an open mind' on the numbers that do not show what you want whilst keeping your mind closed on everything else.

Forget the 1st quarter as it means nothing. Let’s look at the 2nd quarter when it comes out and let’s see if it followed the first quarter’s trend, especially when her neighbouring countries are now keeping their borders closed with Sweden because of high rate of new cases.

If Sweden rates their economy over number of deaths, especially their elderly, I will have to see them in a different light from here on. Yes, let the old die so that we can spend our inheritance a little earlier at the local pubs and restaurants.

Thanks grandma and grandpa. Cheers!

But a severe economic recession will take a heavy toll in lives. The economy and lives are connected.

Frankly, I find the suggestion that Swedes want their grandparents to die to be both counterintuitive and disgusting.
