I guess you *could* argue that each year 30-40 thousand Americans are “liberated” by US cops, but it would be controversial... :)

It would be controversial for you because you would be incorrect.

So a thousand then get “liberated” by US cops on the streets and you consider the US population to be the “freest on the planet”... how’s that?

It's called law enforcement.

It's not usually the police's fault when they are forced to shoot someone because they have broken laws and posed a threat to police and other civilians.

1000 is nothing in a country like the US of 330 million people.

When I talk about freedoms I talk about personal freedoms. In the US you have freedom of expression, thought, association, religion, and can do what you like. You can demonstrate all you like, even against Trump or any of the past US Presidents. You are not free to be a criminal and a menace to society in the US or elsewhere.

If your argument is that it is excessive, then ,maybe that is correct, but it's only excessive because police have to be cautious because the US Citizen has the 5th amendment right to carry and bear arms.

Who says you can't do those things in European countries?

I never said you can't do those things in Europe or that Europe isn't free. It's free enough.

But it isn't as free as the US I'm afraid. The US and American citizens are really big on their freedoms right down to their rights to bear arms. All written up in the Constitution as part of the Bill of Rights.

By no means am I saying Europe isn't free, for now. But as free as it is, the entire world still lags behind the Yanks in terms of all kinds of civil liberties. they set all the benchmarks when European countries were still under ugly dictatorships. In other words, Europeans were swinging from tree to tree when the Americans started the civil liberties movements.

Oh is that all you've got... the bear arms?

So... "You have the right to shoot each other" ...is considered a plus, eh?

I never made any comment about it being a plus.

But according to Americans it's considered an important right because the they don't trust government and believe that one day their arms will play an important role.

they could be right, that one day they may count their lucky stars to be armed.

I always support tougher licencing controls and measures as well as stringent police checks, but you will also find that Americans who have permits for their weapons are not the Americans who commit crimes or pose a menace or danger.
