Mate, if you get a raptor you will fall in love with it. Not that I recommend it for you unless you are a 4 by 4 enthusiast. Not really ideal for the city streets. But great car.

No, I only like sports cars… not that I have one these days.

I drool over classics like Maserati, Aston Martin, etc.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in a ute and I don’t care how “done-up” it may be.

Don’t we all? Aston Martin.

The raptor is already done up by Ford. Has one of the most expensive suspensions on the market and everything is reinforced. The Diesel is a twin turbo with plenty of power.

The only thing that needs doing after market is the front bull bar, and rear bar. Maybe put a snorkel as well. But none of that adds to its performance.

It’s in a different league to the Maserati, Aston Martin etc. The raptor is an off-road performance car. It’s bullet proof almost when it’s off-road.

In the city it almost drives like any other car, the only difficulty is it’s size.

You get more heads turning to a raptor than you do with a Maserati. Sometimes it’s parked next to a ferrari (no it’s not mine) and believe me, it looks like it just wants to drive over the top of it and crush it like a coke can.

We are Ute crazed in Australia right now. Just like Texas.

More utes selling than anything else and why not. They are great lifestyle vehicles and Australia is a big country with so much to see and do.

My next holiday is likely going to be in the Flinders Rangers camping under the stars with the kids.

Btw, that’s not the traditional Aussie hat.

The traditional Aussie hat is an akubra cattleman, made out of felt like the one pictured. It’s also standard issue for Australian Army Infantry. Worth about $200. They’re pretty damn nice too. Very sophisticated. I gave a couple away to some special relatives of mine in Cyprus as a bit of an Australia related gift.

Interesting... not when I was there. V6 and V8 Commodore sedans were the in-thing for those that could afford them.

Or maybe that's just Adelaide...

The only Commodores being built now are the performance HSV. All V8s with American engines and all performance cars. They are very expensive.

In the last 10 years, the Ute has taken over. There is a HSV Ute called the Malibu. That thing is a muscle car and very fast, high acceleration.

But what has taken over are the 4x4 utes. The Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger are leading the sales. The Raptor is a derivative of the Ranger, just bigger, performance parts, and looking like you are about to go to war.

After that it’s the Mitsubishi Tritons, Isuzu DMAX, Nissan etc etc. The funniest things on the road are the Mercedes, BMW and Range Rover 4x4 that never go off the road.

People are buying them for the lifestyle options. Camping, Fishing, picnics, touring, off-roading etc etc. Heaps of fun.

The other thing that’s taking off in Australia is boating. So you need the towing capacity.

Wildtrak and Raptor offer an option to put a shutter over the tray as well. All electronic. Heaps of storage, carrying tonnage and towing.

Apart from the steel work, you can add some lights, and a retractable side awning as well. Very versatile.

Perth is very big on 4x4 so no, the utes are taking over. Lots of options for such vehicles in WA. Same in Brisbane and Adelaide. Melbourne is like that too. It’s all over.

I like sports cars too and have a thing for Aston Martin. It’s a piece of art like so many others. Absolutely glorious if you have the disposable money to buy one at $600,000. But tbh, the 4x4 utes like Hilux, Wildtrak are superb and more versatile and fun. If you want to go high end into the performance realm, then it’s the Raptor. Also the RAM which are getting out and about here as well. A cousin here had a Hummer, and they are just very angry as well. Also the Jeeps are fantastic. They make the Gladiator.

Among the Greeks and Cypriots, the German cars seem to be king. They view it as a status symbol. But whenever the Raptor comes they start feeling very small just from the sheer presence of the Raptor.

And I’m happy to park next to them as well. One of them came up to me and said how much fuel is that thing guzzling. Well they are amazingly economical due to the latest engine technology these days and twin turbos.

I live my Raptor. I call it my end game car. I just want to have that and that’s it. Ford plan to make a Hybrid version in 2023. I will wait to see how that goes and maybe trade up eventually once I’m convinced it’s reliable like the current model.

Not to say I don’t want some sports car as well. My Koumbaro is a sports car fanatic and has one of the best and he tracks it at the bee Shahin Grand Prix Track. It’s porn on wheels but all it is is a weekend cruiser really. You can’t do any of the stuff I can with the Raptor.

But an Aston Martin will still be nice for sure. 8)
