Boomer, same with you, I am an Independent. The thing is, we either have the freedom of speech in the USA or not to debate about anything in a civilized manner without coercion. Of course Kirk had his own views when debating anyone from all sorts of life, especially from college campuses where a lot of the indoctrination goes on, on the same kids you are talking about by their professors…forcefully, by making these kids take classes on subjects they never signed up for, hence Kirk assertion that colleges in the USA are a scam. The fact that these 18+ year olds are potential voters in the elections, I do not see the problem them having an open debates with Kirk on their own free will. Most of them walk away not being persuaded at all, so where is the harm in having debates with Kirk. Would you also call students from elite Universities such as Oxford and Cambridge as being dumb asses?
Americans are so divided and tribalized into separate political camps, violence and attempted assassinations are becoming accepted way to confront the other side rather than dialogue and debates. The person’s political association who assassinated Kirk is not known at this point, but at age 22, his indoctrination and radicalization could only come from three sources, college, politicians and social media. He hasn’t lived long enough to have experiences to form his own hatefulness to go and kill another person based on their views. Same with the assassin to be of Trump. Another young brainwashed useful idiot. But let’s leave these young brainwashed assassins aside for the moment and look at the reactions of those celebrating the murder of Kirk. How sick is that?
I have said recently on previous posts that America has become ripe for another civil war, and if and when that happens, the country will look very different from what it was meant to look like since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It will be no different than any other authoritarian institutions around the world where Democracy and Freedom of Speech means very little. Europe is already there!
Maybe you left Cyprus too early. Early 70s we had debates in the secondary schools. Given a subject the selected few would prepare and debate the subject. He prepares the agenda and you think he is having debates? You must be joking. Sometimes you miss the obvious Kiks. If he wanted to have a debate, he lays down the topics and invites people who have the knowledge to debate with him. They would wipe the floor with his intellect of luck there of. He can then open to question and answer mode so the audience can ask question to both sides.
