Ukrainians attacked the Russian Ukrainians, economically, politically and Militarily as well as wanting to Join NATO. We had the same in Cyprus. Makarios wanted Enosis with Greece, he put economic, political and military pressure on the TCs and the Turks came in just like the Russians did in Ukraine.
There is also talk that Turkey would have invaded even if every single TC was killed. The same goes with Russia. They would have invaded if every single Russian Ukrainian was killed too.
The outcomes are another matter. In Ukraine we have Trump who wants a piece of the action so he is willing to sell the Ukrainians. Whether it is acceptable to Zelenski it is another matter. He can cut his losses and agree or continue to fight and lose more that what the Russians are asking for, or even perhaps the whole lot.
The same cannot be said of the Cypriots. Americans want Cyprus as part of NATO or even as is, as it suits their narrative. Russia does not want peace as the conflict in Cyprus creates friction between two NATO members. Add to that the fact that both sides in Cyprus have got a nationalistic narrative which prevents them from compromising for peace and it explains why after 60 years we still do not have peace.
So in reality, at the root of both problems is NATO expansion.
Of course Turkey has to come into the equation just the same as Russia. They are the same element of the same equation. Pretending to care whilst taking care of their own interests.
Unfortunately the Americans with the help of the Israelis have destroyed the International Law so from now on it will be everyman for himself. Turks can garb the whole of Cyprus, Americans can take the whole Arab Lands and the Chinese can take Taiwan.
Perhaps Trump might want to solve the Cyprus problems too. If he could, that would be a big feather in his cap to get the Noble Peace Prize I would imagine!
