He lived in best post codes, Ferraris, Bentleys the lot but somehow he'd always end up visiting me to borrow money. 10k at some visits, 20k at times. Always paid me back. He is now bankrupt and I'm waiting for the 16k I last lent him to be paid back.

I have always been scared to borrow and thank god always managed to fund whatever I fancied with my own hard earned cash.

My Koumbaro has a Ferrari. He is a bit of a play boy but he is wealthy too. His brother is well off but more grounded.

Only difference if my Koumbaro has never been in a position to need money from friends.

But we are regularly in a position to use our lines for materials and pay people. That’s what it’s there for. Our biggest problem is cashflow. It comes in spurts. We spend for months and after a year or many months at lest we get a pay day which goes back on our lines and then it’s at least many months, and sometimes over a year for the next influx. And so on and so on. He doesn’t even have a salary unless he decides to pay himself one which he is entitled to do. And again it could be from borrowings. That’s the nature of the beast.

He is still in a position to play though. He literally has a car collection. His brother is more down to earth. Same with me. He too is a partner. The 3 stooges. Plus Koumbaro’s son.

Good luck to you mate. I wasn't always good with money and in fact I'm ashamed to admit it now but between 1986 and 2006 I must have done a good 250k up my nose and a good 100k on champagne. Add to that my stupid gambling habits you're looking at a good 750k+ down the drain. I was such a cu*t back in them days. Hold on, I just remembered, add another 250k on flash cars you're looking at a cool fucking million. What an idiot I was :( :( :(

knew there was something I liked about you... 8)

:D :D Man of many talents DT

My old man had a gambling habit. Mostly horses, however he liked the casino as well. In the latter parts of his life he controlled it significantly though. I reckon he got burnt badly. Some of the stories I heard about him after he got off the boat in Australia were mind boggling. But his best friends who got off the boat with him would also say you could never meet a better man than my Dad. I have no idea the amounts he lost.

But I do remember him warning me big time. I could tell it was experience talking. Him saying, “son, I’ve been there and I wish I hadn’t been there”.

Blimey. I had you tagged as an accountant, working for an insurance company.

Welcome to the club!

  Blimey back to you mate. I had you down as a retired coffin dodging officer   I wonder how many times we used the same gents toilets in WestEnd clubs to service our noses.  Glad to be included in the club. :D :D

I also did about 100k on the share market in 2008. I had just got married too so was entering a new phase in my life. At that time my wife was asking what the hell she got herself into when I told her.

Most of the losses were on a mining start up and a bio med company. Both were penny stocks. At one point I was about 500% up. Shares bought at 25 cents. Went up to $1.25 and then down to 5 cents overnight.

Oh and before I got married, I thought I was a smart ass with a gambling habit too. I use to read books about it. Card counting and doubling bets after losing hands. Remember in one night, I was up about 10k.

Went back the next day and done about 20k.

Never went back again.

Well done for not chasing to win back the money you lost. Once it's gone it's gone. You start chasing it then you're good and proper fucked. All very easy to say now, bloody plonker that I am I chased it and the more I chased it the more it eluded me.

I was literally gutted. I learned that no matter how much you may try, emotion gets you. Plus the system I was using on the black jack table where you would double your bet after each losing hand is ok but no matter what the probabilities, the time will come where you will lose 11 hands in a row, and when that happens, you”re stuffed.

Blackjack is not too hard Paphitis because probability-wise your cards are favorable every 4th or 5th round, so from your very first win count to the 4th hand and double your bet.

Then bet peanuts for the next three rounds and double up again on the 4th… and so forth.

I walked away with a profit from a blackjack table many times using this technique. All other card games are a waste of money.

Here are the steps:

When you first start playing keep betting the minimum amount until you actually win and then...

Start counting:

Round #1: Bet minimum

Round #2: Bet minimum

Round #3: Bet minimum

Round #4: Bet maximum

If you win on the 4th round repeat the cycle above, and if not bet maximum again in round #5.

Repeat the above again...

NB: If you win unexpectedly (rounds 1 to 3) reset your counter.

How many decks of cards in the pack, GR?

Most casino shoe delivered cards has at least 6 decks of cards in the shoe. Kind of makes it difficult to have a system, no?

If the blackjack tables did not have a limit and one has a lot of money to play with, you can never lose as you could double down after each losing hand until you win.

That’s what I thought too Get Real. Actually it’s an easy game to strategise.

My system, after extensive research   was to bet the minimum on the first hand. If you win, keep betting the minimum and win small. Always double on an ace or a 10 or picture only if the dealer had a shit card which for me was a 7 or under. Maybe an 8 or under. If you win bet the minimum again and again and again, then when you lose a hand, double your money. If you win, go back to the minimum. And keep going. When you lose the next hand, double. If you lose again, double that bet to recoup losses. Statistically speaking it should stop there and it does 9 times out of 10. But when the stars align and you lose again, you double that too. All of a sudden you are laying $200 on the table. Lose that and the next bet is $400. Lose that and the next bet is 800. Then it’s up to the table naximum.

It just wasn’t meant to get there.

Before you know it you are 2k in the red.

Oh and I also fancied my card counting abilities. I knew how many aces, kings, queens, jacks, tens and nines were in a shoe and I developed a card counting technique, for the amount remaining for those cards in the shoe as the game progressed. So I played the probabilities and thought I was clever.

But not clever enough. It actually worked for a while as described in the text book. But one fateful night, my luck ran out.

There were either 8 or 10 decks not 2. But it is possible to card count. It’s a real thing card counting. Also illegal. You just count down the number of aces, kings, queens, jacks, tens and nines. You don’t count the other cards.

Forget card counting on a 6-8 deck shoe used in Las Vegas , because the dealer puts all the cards just played back in the back of the shoe. :D

Oh, one more thing, the house does not pay 2 to 1 any longer on blackjacks in Vegas. Most likely to be 3to2.

If you are playing one on one with the dealer on a single deck, you have some control, but if you are on a table with 6 players and a shoe is used and the guy just before you hits a 17 because the dealer is showing a 8, 9, 10 or a face card, then you are fucked if you have 11 and have also doubled down because the asshole is going to get your 10 or the face card.

Err no. They can only put the dead cards in the stacker. Once dealt, they are dead.

You can’t put them back in the shoe. That’s real dirty.

The dealer cuts the shoe twice. Once in the middle or close enough and the other cut towards the back of the shoe. The cut the second cut in a spot where the cards may run out or not permit a full table hand. It’s always towards the back of the shoe when the odds are more in the punter’s favour and against the house but only if you can count cards. It’s not as hard as it sounds but 98% of people can’t do it.

If the suspect card counting, the arseholes cut more forward from the back so you can’t reap the full benefit of your skill. They also change dealers more regularly when the house is on a losing streak. And it’s usually a very attractive female.

They also shout you more drinks. If you are serious about it, alcohol and gambling don’t mix well.

Rule number one: if you are gonna gamble big, stick to the lemonades. You need every bit of your faculties to beat the system. The dealer will always be sober.

You are talking about the system where the dead cards are thrown into the self shuffling machine where the dealer does what you have stated, but that takes time and the casinos do not want to waste time, so they just add the dead cards to the back of the shoe. :D
