Australian PM will not confirm. He was asked by the media and said he can't divulge the information.

Australia asked the US or Israel to release 3 Iranian Terrorists in order to exchange for an Australian Academic held hostage in Tehran on Espionage charges.

That country (probably US, Israel or UK) agreed.

An Australian Government A319 departed Canberra, landed in Tehran, picked up Gilbert, took them to Doha, loaded the 3 Iranians and delivered them to Tehran, then flew back to Doha. Next day, it arrived in Canberra via Bangkok.
