You're right, it is an acquired taste. I imagine the feel of hunting is cultural too. I grew up hunting on 48 acres of woods and, while I cannot say I got into it, the way friends did, it is a bit more humane than the way they kill animals on industrial farms (which surrounded us). Packaged food is the fast route to obesity and a heart attack. Hunting is something like organc.

Hunting

Seriously guys - WHEN DOES HUNTING SEASON END?

I hate it. Surely it must be by the end of February? Although I heard that the hunters have a special allowance to shoot some of the big black birds this year whenever they like.

We live in the middle of an agricultural area and are the only permanent residents for a fair distance, the other few houses being weekend places. We bought the house believing it to be a peaceful haven paradise. Unfortunately we are not so lucky. During the whole of September and half of October, they are shooting birds EVERY SINGLE DAY from dawn til dusk - I do not exaggerate! We looked into this and apparently it is legal where there are no Reserve Signs - BUT WE DO HAVE RESERVE SIGNS, the hunters ignore them. We have had pellets landing in our swimming pool and close to our heads! The dogs are terrified and even follow us to the toilet!

Yesterday, I took a long walk through the Rizolia Forest in Aradippou with my dog. This is a national forest with walk ways and special view points from where on a clear day you can see the whole of Larnaca right up to Stavrovouni. ON walking back to the car a double cabin passed us by with 3 guys in hunting gear and a box of hunting dogs on the back. This is a nature walk and a protected area with kids play grounds etc. Why on earth are hunters allowed to use this area? Who is policing this? A walker would get shot!!!
