My dad needs a portable GPS to use it while walking around the mountains etc. He is not into these gismos neither do I, yet... He needs altimeter, compass, and the ability to export (or import) any coordinate points from/to his pc. I've found out that Magellan and Garmin are the known makes... Which models would you recommend? I'm been to their websites and I'm a bit confused. I think I do not need the mapping feature as Cyprus is not electronically mapped and any CDs with maps covering Cy are not detailed enough to be purchased. It has to be fairly cheap though!

Look at the www.bestbuy.com site Mikre

I have a Magellan 300 which is awesome for trails. No pc downloads thoug.
I use it for snowmobiling. The 200 is a lesser one but is good for what you need.
Why do you need to download on PC? The GPS saves th route if you want to.
Let me know if you need more help.

Dont know, why he needs the downloading, probably to save routes on pc or upload routes. I was almost about to buy the 300, untill I had downloaded the user manual and read that it does not have the download feature. The 200 or 210 are not bad either, though according to the specs only the 300 has an altimeter or electronic compass. Leo can you please check this for me?

I ll go over to the store and check things out later. Sometimes they don't list all details on line. Like the one I just got did not show any options I needed then I found out when I got it that it included everything. The nuvi is sweet. Is a big as a deck of cards. But with too many features for what you need and can use there.

I know the cheaper ones do not have download capabilites (pc hook ups).
What price range are you looking for?

Mikre
I called the store. These are what they have for the price you are looking.

Garmin eTrex Legend C Waterproof Handheld WAAS-Enabled GPS Receiver w/24MB Memory Model: 010-00358-00

Garmin eTrex Legend Waterproof Handheld WAAS-Enabled GPS Receiver w/ 8MB Open Memory Model: eTrex Legend

The two Garmins above have PC connectivity via usb port.

The Magellan 210 Europe sounds like it has some PC connectivity.

Could be via a sd card? Not sure.
I called them but got nowhere. YES we can not get immediate help here ALL the time. Besides I think it is a British company. The local store does not have it.

Personally I am a Magellan fan, till the new Nuvi was introdused. My 300 fell off and got burried in snow too many times and it still works. I may have run over it with my snowmobile too lol.

I have no idea how much they cost there.

Thanks man, the local magellan agent does not import the exporist line but the more expensive ones, so my option is to order a magellan or garmin from the net. Thanks for the info anyway.

Mikros before you buy something online check their reputation at http://www.resellerratings.com also be sure that they ship to Cyprus. I think bestbuy does not ship here.
