Unfortunately, Cyprus itself has alot of corruption, especially ministers and the policeforce. People in high places don't get there on merit, they get there on the basis that they know somebody. It all works on favours here, you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours. The chances are, whatever charges would have been bought against these police, they would be dropped on technical grounds, or lack of evidence.

Police abusing their powers in the south is not common but it is nothing new. Cypriots sometimes joke among themselves as to how lucky the tourists have it because the police let them slide most of the time when they do something wrong. Yep, you dont want to be on the wrong side of the law in Cyprus especially if your citizen. Good thing about this is those responsible will be punished because its getting a lot of attention in the Cypriot press.

The police in the south have a lot in common with the police in the occupied north, they both like beat up people. Does anyone know if limasol CID still use electric cattle prods on suspects ?

Wishiwasbackincyprus i will have you know i was a police officer in Cornwall for 27 years, i also served 2 years in Plymouth. You are out of order saying police all are F..... cowards, i was not one of those who carried on in that way, i agree that if that actually happened then it was way out of order, but you cannot tar all police with the same brush. I was proud to be in the police, the GB police forces are known to be the best in the world, In the time i was there i was assaulted, insulted, abused spat at and even my wife and children were insulted by some of the morons i had to deal with, i would suggest you think before making rash comments in future![/b]
