I think you will find, WE DO HAVE A NATIONAL ANTHEM.

While there are some people in this forum who would advocate "Freedom or become a Greek province" as the motto, I think it would be better to choose something along the lines of "Together towards peace and freedom." Perhaps in Latin, just so as not to upset anybody at all. (Although ancient Hellenic would be acceptable I guess, as they spoke that in much of ancient Turkey too.)

I like the humorous usage of the phrase "ancient Turkey".Of course such a place never existed, as i remember from my history classes throughout my long studying years. You must have mistaken the Asia Minor history, where no Turks existed during the ancient historical years, for the history of the Ottoman Empire later on.

Of course i also have to admit that Mohamet II's Court used extensively the Greek language at the early years of his conquest as a way to communicate with the other imperial courts of Europe.

Firstly Lithuanians never used to be Russians!!!

This is irrelevant .Is Lithuania recognised by the International Law as an independent Nation? This is what is relevant. The International Law.

It is ironic to see people here ignoring the International Law and it is the International Law that they refer to Free Cyprus from Turkey! What an Irony !

The greatest problem on your misconception is that you fail to distinguish the difference among the words "citizenship" and "national identity"
And fortunately for most of us and unfortunatelly for some others we are a part of the Hellenic nation.
Regards

Please do not force me to become a part of the so called Hellenic Nation. Keep this for yourslef !

Cyprus does not need any future support from Greece. It can defend its national interest alone.

I will never force anybody to become a member of the Greek/Hellenic Nation.
Firstly, because you either born into one nation or not.The technology to alter entirely somebody's chromosomes does not exist yet.
Secondly , because of my character and although i feel very strongly about these issues , i feel that anybody is free to believe to whatever he likes.

You speak for yourself! You do not speak for Cyprus! If it was not for Greece, Cyprus would not even be in the EU! Greece is a crucial ally for Cyprus - and with the UK, US and Turkey crowding Cyprus like vultures, Cyprus needs all the friends it can get.

Fine, you do not consider yourself to be ethnically Greek, great for you. But I think most of the world and GCs do, or else they wouldn't use the word GREEK, in Greek Cypriot would they? Or they wouldn't have celebrated Greece's Euro Championship win would they? Or they wouldn't be supporting Greece at the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest would they? Or they wouldn't boast about sharing Greece's rich cultural past would they? I think you'll find they do all those things. I sometimes wonder what people like you would be saying now if the democratic vote in Cyprus prevailed and we had union with Greece in the 1950s or even earlier after the WW1, as Britain had previously promised.

We are Greek Cypriots. If you have a problem admitting this fine, but don't speak for all of Cyprus when you do so.

My dear friend WE ARE USING AND CLAIMING some other country’s national anthem!

HAVE WE ASKE THEM IF THEY WANT US TO USE THEIR FLAG? NO!

It belongs to Greece and its proud people

That anthem IS NOT OURS and we should adopt one of our own.

By the way that anthem talks not a peaceful proud anthem. Is an anthem that talks about blood and swords etc....

Its so anachronistic and out date i would have recommend to the Greek government at some stage to look at updating it

PROUD CYPRIOT PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE THERE OWN NATIONAL ANTHEM AND NATIOAN FLAG

KEEP ALL THE FOREING FLAGS OUT OF CYPRUS!

Cyprus entered the EU because it satisfied all the EU criteria the Copenhagen Criteria for membership. Greece did nothing ! Having Cyprus not satisfied the EU criteria and entered with Greece support then you would be right but this is not the case.

Cyprus can form many other foreign allies without being so dependent to Greece.

In Politics there is no friendship there are only national interests. Has Greece got the approval of the Cy government to enhance its inter border trade with Turkey ?

Most of the world???? The world sees Cyprus as an independent state.

Are there any surveys to prove that the GCs still insist on ENosis? and incorporation to the Greek culture? I would like to read such surveys.

Because they support these Greek achievements imply that the Support also their incorporation to Greece?

This belongs in the past. In 1960 Cy got its independence . What If Scenarios ARE TOTALLY USELESS AND COUNTERPRODUCTIVE.

Two countries are allowed to have the same anthem you know! I've never heard that there was a law against it.

I have very good news for you :
We do have an anthem that is OURS at the current moment.
On Monday morning however you should call one of the newlyelected MPs and urge him/her to start any actions necessary for a change of OUR Republic of Cyprus anthem.Until this change occurs you should always stand in attention when the "Ymnos stin Eletheria" is played.Mind you that this anthem is the ROC anthem not just the Greek Cypriots one.

Two independent countries which is the case bewteen Cy and GR can never normally and legally have the same Anthem. This is illegal!

Those who dont admire the Cyprus culture and the Cypriot nation can go elsewhere to live they have no place in this country!

You obviously don't know the story about Cyprus' accession. Greece actually threatened to block all the other states accession if Cyprus was not allowed in. It's a long story, I suggest you get up to date. Cyprus needs Greece's support; and I think our relationship goes beyond national interests. But I guess you wouldn't know about that.

The world does see Cyprus as independent. Who said they didn't? I was pointing out that the world sees us as Greek Cypriots, as do most GCs themselves. Someting you try to deny. Who said anything about them supporting incorporation into Greece? I'm merely poiting out our ethnicity as Greek, which you try to deny.
