Why are we displaying other peoples flags?

Because there are some people who like being a slave. Where was Greece in 1974 when we needed its support?

The National Anthem is another Irregularity/stupidity.

Even what stops the President of Cyprus to declare an independent national anthem to be added to the constitution ? What is this government doing?

In Cyprus we have never had a leader from 1960 until now!

Only when these DINOSAURS are hungry for votes they remember the country but then they forget!

michalis5354 wrote:Antreis The Cyprus republic founded in 1960 is an independent republic . When you says independent it directly means that you are a separate nation as well.

Also the Lithuanians used to be russians but not any more now they are a separate nation according to international Law!

Does Cyprus execrise control in Greece?

Does Greek exercise Control in Cyprus?

How can anyone claim that Cypriot nation is a part of the Hellenic Nation when the Cypriot culture and the Greek culture are not the same.

Firstly Lithuanians never used to be Russians!!!

Lithuania was part of the Russian Empire and later on part of the USSR.
In the Russian Empire a host of other nations cohabited either peacefully or not.The same can also be said about the USSR.
Some Lithuanian citizens are Russians about 7%.
Also some Lithuanian citizens are Polish , also 7%

Examples of other empires where racially different people were living together can be found in any encyclopedia. Closest ,geographically, to us was the Ottoman Empire in which Cyprus belonged for about 300 difficult and long years. Another example is the British Empire in which Cyprus had also the great "Honor" to belong.

The greatest problem on your misconception is that you fail to distinguish the difference among the words "citizenship" and "national identity"
And fortunately for most of us and unfortunatelly for some others we are a part of the Hellenic nation.

We have a National Anthem and it is a pity that you don't even recognize this fact. The peculiarity is that our N.A. is the same as the N.A. of Greece.
Of course if you feel better we have also the unofficial N.A. "AIGIA KOKKINI"

Yup. He's right. It's "Imnos is tin Eleftherian" which is also, completely by coincidence, the national anthem of another nearby Mediterranean country. Can you guess whose?

Is that country:

a) Turkey
b) Greece
c) New Zealand

Incidentally, Cyprus chose not to adopt the Greek national motto, which is a bit of luck really, as this is: "Freedom or death". I find death a rather unsatisfactory option, as I'm sure the majority of Cypriots would have done too.

While there are some people in this forum who would advocate "Freedom or become a Greek province" as the motto, I think it would be better to choose something along the lines of "Together towards peace and freedom." Perhaps in Latin, just so as not to upset anybody at all. (Although ancient Hellenic would be acceptable I guess, as they spoke that in much of ancient Turkey too.)

Ancient Turkey?? LOL. There was no such thing.

Antreis, you are bang on. We do have a national anthem and you are also right that people confuse nationality with identity. We are Hellenes.

I like the humorous usage of the phrase "ancient Turkey".Of course such a place never existed, as i remember from my history classes throughout my long studying years. You must have mistaken the Asia Minor history, where no Turks existed during the ancient historical years, for the history of the Ottoman Empire later on.

This is irrelevant .Is Lithuania recognised by the International Law as an independent Nation? This is what is relevant. The International Law.

It is ironic to see people here ignoring the International Law and it is the International Law that they refer to Free Cyprus from Turkey! What an Irony !

Please do not force me to become a part of the so called Hellenic Nation. Keep this for yourslef !

Cyprus does not need any future support from Greece. It can defend its national interest alone.
