Nicosia no. But why not Limassol? You don't have to go in the center. Limassol has many 5 star hotels, it has lots of clubs, cafea, nightlife etc, you can do some shopping as well. And it is also in a more central location so you can also visit other places in Cyprus. I mean Pissouri is nice and it has a nice beach and some restaurants, but still a village. Not much things to do there.

If you had 7 days to travel around Cyprus would you do the obvious - couple of days each in Larnaca, Limassol, Paphos and a day in Nicosia?

Is that possible to easily travel between the places quickly and affordably?
And is one day enough in Nicosia? Would you maybe do one of the villages - like Tochni for one day and lose a day in, say, Limassol?

And finally, how safe is it for girls to travel around alone?

Would crossing over to the occupied side not be a bit political?
I'm asking seriously by the way - my limited understanding of the situation errs me on the side of caution and that I wouldn't like to upset the Greek Cypriots by 'recognising' the occupied area. As such I have only considered visiting the unoccupied areas. And also from a safety aspect if I'm alone then I don't want to put myself at any risk - if the area is not recognised by international countries is it safe for me to go there alone?

That's so very kind of you to offer but I think that I will be there end of April. Hope you have a great time there!
Do you think it's best that to travel around I hire a car then? Or is it easy to get around with shared taxi's and buses?

If you planning to drive all around cyprus its better you have to hire a car . I will send you some details about the best rates and good cars ones. I always use petsas if i need car . Also with a rent a car you can pass north but you have to pay £10 insurance on the door . Its very safe in south or noth Cyprus to drive. Are you from uk or which country ?
You can look north cyprus forums like www.cyprus44.com to findabout north as well.
Hope you have a nice holiday
