We are finally sorted!! We were offered the Atkeon Apartments in Paphos, but from what we could tell this was stuck out in the middle of nowhere. The reviews we read said that there was very little in the way of restaurants nearby and we do like to venture out quite a bit in the evenings. So after a bit of investigation we have changed our holiday completely and are going to Alykanas in Zante!! It very much seems like the Atlantica Oasis in Greece in so much as there is a Thomsons Kids Club and entertainment every night. Will miss Cyprus, but will probably try the Oasis again next year.... assuming it is actually open by then!

Hope everyone has a good holiday wherever they may be spending it.

After First choice finally admitted that the Oasis would not be ready, they offered us the Miramare but could not confirm the booking until someone from accomodations was able to phone us back. They then did not phone back so we missed out on the Miramare as it is now fully booked. They then offered us the Papantonia apartments in Protaras but after reading the reviews on this we decided that it was not to the same standard as the Oasis.
After about 6 hours on the phone, we are now going to Zante as we could not find anything in Cyprus for the same price that was as nice. I am disgusted the way that First Choice dealt with our situation and will be billing them for the phone calls.

Hi Guys

Just got back from limassol. Stayed at the miramare but had a quick look at the oasis. It is a bomb site and after speaking to various people it looks like it won't be ready until at least oct. Tour operators are aware as the reps have kept them informed. !! I have taken some pictures if anyone wants them.

As i said we stayed at the miramare. It was ok!! We have a 1 year old son and teh pool area and playground we great for him but there wasn/t much for older children to do. There was a kids club but only for russian children. However, new kids reps started just as we were leaving so it may change. The hotel staff are excellent and are really trying hard. The food as others have said is just ok. We only ate 3 times as there was nothing that suited or son. Chicken nuggets and chips everynight. Again things may change. On our last night there was a lot of men in suits talking to guests so changes may be made.

Hope this helps

Atlantica Oasis

Postby BAZ12 » Wed Jul 25, 2007 8:14 am

Hi all

Booked our honeymoon at the Atlantica oasis for 3rd October but after seeing the piccys on here we decided not to take the risk as I am sure it still wont be open. Went down to First Choice to ask for an alternative but surprise surprise no joy have had to pay £ 197 extra and we are now going to Paphos staying at the Avanti. Anyone think we have a chance in getting any money back in the event that the Atlantica will not be open on 3rd Oct. Also my daughter works for First choice and new nothing about the refurb when she booked it for us last August

Baz12,

Sorry that you have had to move. In defence of the hotel though, I was there last August and there was quite a lot of information about their refurbishment there then. It was included in their welcome pack. They did say it would be completed by the end of April though so that may be why it didn't feed through to holidays being booked for the following summer.

HI, BAZ
YOU DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT YOUR NEW HOTEL THE AVANTI.I GOT MARRIED IN PAPHOS LAST AUGUST AND STAYED AT THIS HOTEL IT WAS FIRST CLASS.LOVELY POOL AREA ETC . THIS YEAR FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY WE THOUGHT WE WOULD TRY LIMASSOL, ATLANTICA OASIS, BECAUSE OF KIDS FACILITIES ETC ON THE 22ND AUGUST,BUT AFTER SEEING PROBLEMS PEOPLE HAVE HAD THROUGH THIS FORUM WE GOT IN TOUCH WITH THOMPSONS AND WANTED SOME EXPLANATION.AFTER HOURS ON PHONE THEY FINALLY ADMITTED A PROBLEM AND SAID THEY WERE TRANSFERING PEOPLE TO THE ST GEORGE HOTEL IN PAPHOS WHICH FOR US WAS UNACCEPTABLE NOT VERY CHILD FRIENDLY! ONLY MINUTES AWAY FROM AVANTI WHICH WAS LAST YEAR! WE WANTED DIFFERENT RESORT! CORAL BAY, THOMPSON CHECKED AVAILABILITY AND SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE DIFFERENCE £170. I WANTED SOME ANSWERS AS WHY THEY COULD SEND US TO A 5 STAR PLATINUM UPGRADE AT NO EXTRA COST, THEN WHEN WE WANTED ONLY 4 STAR IN CORAL BAY IT WAS GOING TO COST US (DONT THINK SO!) ANY WAY TO CUT A VERY LONG STORY A BIT SHORTER I STUCK TO MY GUNS AND WAS ADAMANT I WAS PAYING NOTHING EXTRA AND FINALLY AFTER MANAGER WAS ON THE PHONE OUT THE BACK OF SHOP FOR 20 MIN OR SO SHE COME BACK AND SAID WE COULD HAVE CORAL BAY AT NO EXTRA COST AND I GOT £17 CASH BACK AFTER NEW CALCULATIONS NOT BAD IN THE END. AS FAR AS COMPENSATION GOES WHEN WE BOOKED OASIS WE GOT FREE CHILD PLACE ON HALF BOARD BASIS BUT CROWN HORIZON RESORT IN CORAL BAY DOESNT OFFER THEM BUT WE GOT OURS IN THE WAY OF COMPO, ABOUT £400 IF WE BOOKED THERE ORIGINALLY I WAS HAPPY IN THE END AFTER ALL THE STRESS OF SORTING THINGS OUT. YOU CAN PUT A LETTER IN EXPLAINING YOUR SITUATION AND SEE IF YOU GET ANY JOY WITH COMPO BUT IF HOTEL DOES FINALLY OPEN BEFORE YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO TRAVEL MY GUESS IS THAT THEY WILL SAY IT WAS OPEN FOR BUISNESS BUT YOU DECIDED TO MOVE NOT US TELLING YOU TO.!!! SO MY ADVICE!! TO ANYBODY TRAVELLING TO OASIS SOON GO TO YOUR TRAVEL AGENT ARMED WITH ALL THE INFORMATION YOU CAN ABOUT WERE YOU!! WANT TO GO, AVAILABILITY COSTS ETC, INSTEAD OF LETTING THEM TELL YOU WERE THEY!! WANT TO PUT YOU ITS YOUR HARD EARNED CASH DONT BE PUSHED AROUND STICK TO YOUR GUNS AND LET THEM NO WHOS BOSS. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR WEDDING / HONEYMOON I AM SURE YOU WILL HAVE A LOVELY TIME AT THE AVANTI WITH ITS SWIM UP BAR, EVERYBODY ELSE REMEMBER!! DO NOT!! PART WITH ANY MORE CASH AT TRAVEL AGENTS ITS THEIR FAULT NOT YOURS GOOD LUCK SEE YA ,NELLSON.

I would agree with most of what is stated here , the hotel Oasis has no chance of being ready for a few months yet, Louise you are right what you say about the food, as far as the kids meals are concerned, but in my opinion the adult food was first class and could not be faulted, at least 7/8 dishes every night with salad bar and plenty of sweets. the hotel Miramare itself was excellent and the staff some of the most helpful i have encountered in 20 odd years of holidaying, anybody that has been moved to this hotel need not worry about anything. the only slight complaint i would say would be like most other hotels the drinks were more expensive than normal pubs/restaurants, and that the entertainment at night was very limited. after all our worrying about Oasis being closed we had a fantastic holiday and would return to cyprus in a heartbeat.

Louise LOCH 2207 Could you please e mail me pics of Atlantica Oasis would like to keep them for First Choice when we try to claim money back they have charged us for changing to different hotel and location. It will be our first visit to Cyprus and our honeymoon we are now going to Paphos. As well as paying the extra money we are now only getting B&B instead of half board so I guess its going to prove a lot more expensive for us.
My email is [email protected]

If anyone has any info on car hire, good restaurants/bars etc I woud be happy to hear from you

Thanks

Baz
