This post made for some very interesting reading. I am a British guy living in Cyprus and like many others, including the local Cypriot men i enjoy a good night out with friends etc. I have seen with my own Eyes the way foriegn women are treated, including European women. Every female tourist i have ever spoken to have complained about the harrassment they have to endure whilst 'downtown' I am, as described by one person in the original thread a naitive British person and its only mainly the five or so larger cities in the UK that have a high percentage of ethnic groups and even amongst these i have not witnessed the goings on that i have here.

Our societies are still very different, love and marriage has a broader concept than it does in Cyprus, dont get me wrong im not slating it but the behaviour i see here from Cypriot men is very similar to men from the Middle east, maybe its more religous based ! you tell me ?

To date i have never seen a british person harassing Cypriot women, im not saying it does not happen but it certainly must be in the minority. I love this country even if the pace of life is very different from my own which sometimes can be quite frustrating when i am trying to do things at the pace i am are used to.

As i drive or walk around town i am constantly in awe of how beautiful Cypriot women are !!!!! and to me and many other british men (and women) and rate highly among women from many larger countries.

Its refreshing to see that cypriot women are still remain very feminine and i amongst others will continue to admire your beauty, its a shame you are not so interested in us, and to Cypriot men maybe you dont know when you are onto a good thing.

While this can be true, generalizing like this gives a very wrong impression about Cypriots.
Sure, there is a small group of loosers or teenagers that have nothing else to do and they spend every night 'downtown' and many of them do the things that you said. Also there is a big number of non-Cypriots, who might look like Cypriots to foreigners (e.g. Russian pontians), that act in the way you described.
In every country there are such groups of people and you can not stigmatize the whole population because of them.

Can you be more specific about this? Divorce rate in the UK is much higher than in Cyprus. Also, we see British in Cyprus and I traveled to the UK a couple of times. How many times can you see in Cyprus a married 40-50 year old woman going out alone and trying to hit on much younger guys? It happens all the time in the UK. (I am not saying that the majority of women do that, I am just saying that there is a big number).

All in all I don't think Cypriots expect ethics lessons from the British.

You know as much as you can know with any other men.
I could say that the British man would become alcoholic because when I go downtown all of them seem to be like this. Would you like such generalization?

I have just read all the discussions on the desperate men of Cyprus, I think its time that women did stand and spread their opinions, I agreed on most (not all) things that sussed girl said. She is right about quite a few things I also agree with what British man had to say and want to add that it's nice to know that Cypriot women are appreciated for our beauty, we do like to take care of ourselves it was not always this way but now times have changed. I hope people learned things from the discussions I know I did.

There is quite a number of men in Cyprus who are complete losers. Whenever i go downtown at least one person will shout at me through the car window.
They do it that to Cypriot women but what they do to non-Cypriots is even worse. I've seen a Cypriot man in Ayia Napa "flirting" with two very good-looking women by lifting his T-shirt and showing them his hairy chest. That is not civilised, that's animal behaviour.
Fortunately most Cypriot men do have self-respect and I think that most relationships here are indeed based on love (we used to talk about that kind of stuff at school)
As to what you said "spindleshanks" about Cypriot women not being interested in non-Cypriot men, that's probably because non-Cypriot men can't make friends with their (Cypriot) friends or perhaps adapt to their lifestyle. I think this is important to many Cypriots...but I don't know, I can't account for all of us...maybe some people are afraid that their families will disapprove

hello! I don't agree...cypriotic men are not so bad as you say. They just love wimmen, thats all! Men from UK is just the same in behavoir. I know because I have been in London!!
