How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

They didnt save your lives, they saved their own interests.

GC's have every right to hate it, I would too if I were in their situation. Turks came as an invading force and not as a peace keeping one. TC's were a small minority before and somehow you guys wound up with half the island? how does this make any sense at all? you tell me

Do you know anything about the events from 1963 to 1974?

If I didn't know the slightest thing about Cyprus than I wouldn't be here posting now would I?

Your comments indicate you know nothing about the events which lead us to where we are today, tell us what you know?

Probably the stupidest question I'v heard on this forum.

Be more specific. And tell me why me saying the EU doesnt recognise the TRNC and it shouldnt, indicate my knowledge of the situation, because it seems to me I am quite right, unless they recognised it in the past 13 hours...

Kosovo is a worse precedent for Turkey than Cyprus.Anyway it will not pass because of Russia in UN and Greece,Cyprus,Spain,Sweden,Netherlands in EU.Most probably some western states will recognize them and then Serbs in the north will secede.Generally Pandoras box will open.Bosnia,FYROWB and noone knows who else will follow.

In regards to the last part of your statement, Salonikios, you're right. And one possibility is that once the UDI of Kosovo is proclaimed, that they will remember the RoC trying to drive a wedge in the EU over this issue and retaliate by recognizing the north's 1983 UDI as ligitimate...

Utu,Kosovo's Unilateral Declaration of Independence would be legitimate,as it would have the support of quite a few countries, especially America. It's about time that Russia & Serbia were told where to get off,as it were. The same thing goes for those barbarians in Turkey.

If you're referring to Turkish Armenia and Kurdistan, then I would be in agreement. Holding onto those territories is not helping Turkey one iota. Better for Turkey to cede them and have the Armenians and Kurds as friends than retain them and have enemies, IMHO.

In regards to Kosovo, their recognizing the Turkish Cypriot North as a retalitory measure would not be technically illegal as Kosovo would not be allowed to join the UN because of the Russian veto in the Security Council, and the resolutions - I believe - do not apply to non-UN members. If Kosovo was to join the UN, well.. that is another matter.

Utu,the Security Council does not have a say as to what countries should be entitled to membership of the United Nations.Taiwan, like Somaliland,is also an independent country.Taiwan attempted to rejoin the United Nations, but under its own name of Taiwan, but Commie China, which has been illegally occupying Tibet since 1950,promoted a pack of lies before the U.N.'s General Assembly,& Taiwan's application to rejoin was turned down.

Taiwan is a legitimate country,as is Somaliland, whereas, the so-called 'Turkish Republic of Cyprus' is not.

Aidan,

For years, several countries have been blocked from joining the UN by various nations. The Solomon Islands is a case in point. In any case, while the Turkish Cypriot North is thus far not internationally recognized as legal, all it will take to turn that around is a country or two formally recognizing it.

Utu,the Solomon Islands is a fully independent country that is also a British Commonwealth member state like Cyprus is.It is also a Dominion like both Canada & New Zealand are.How was that country refused U.N. membership?

As for the so-called 'Turkish Republic of North Cyprus' getting recognition,it only has recognition from Turkey.I can't believe that the braindead politicians over here in New Zealand persist in maintaining ties with that barbaric country in the same way that they maintain ties with Commie China.

Somaliland is getting support from quite a lot of people within the British Commonwealth, especially in Wales.Somaliland even had a delegation attend the recent British Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kampala,Uganda. Here's a link about Somaliland; www.somalilandgov.com .

My bad, I was referring to Micronesia. When Russia was the Soviet Union, they stopped Micronesia being admitted on the grounds that it was a 'U.S. Puppet State'. There were other states that I can't remember offhand. In any case, in the '90's, there were deals cut that stopped objections from UNSC permanent members, and thus allowed them to join.

By the way, it sounds like you and the other New Zealander (call-sign Expatkiwi) on this forum is going to have differences of opinion. He favors recognition of the Turkish Cypriot North of Cyprus. Also Somaliland and Taiwan, judging from his posts.
