Despite Turkey's best efforts, Israeli tourists aren't returning. The number of Israelis who ventured to Turkey in July was down 90%, reaching a measly 4,500 vacationers - compared to 43,000 in July 2009, and 78,000 in July 2008.

Big deal turkey gets some 27 million tourists last year and 17 million in the first 7 months of this year so this is hardly going to damage the Turkish economy.

Turks accuse Israel of war crimes in international court

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Turkish lawyers representing pro-Palestinian activists filed a complaint Oct. 14 with the International Criminal Court accusing Israel of committing war crimes in May when its troops boarded a boat trying to break Israel’s blockade of Gaza.

It was unclear whether the prosecutor would agree to pursue the case or whether the court has jurisdiction. But the filing reignited an issue that has severely strained Israel’s relations with Turkey.

Turkish document defines Israel as 'central threat'

The Turkish National Security Council approved a few days ago significant changes in a document which contains threats against Turkey claiming that Israel is now a major threat to the country, Turkish media reported Saturday.

Israel was redefined as a "major threat" in the document called "The Red Book."

That's rich, especially in light of today's suicide bombing in Istanbul. Not even Turdogan can claim this as an Israeli strike - I think. Given his other curious fantasies, though, he might declare it a Mossad job.

The addition of Israel to the “Red Book,” coupled with Turkey’s allegation that Israel’s actions may prompt a Middle Eastern arms race, delivered a decisive blow to what remained of Turkish-Israeli relations. Turkey showed its hostility to staunch US ally Israel with other measures as well – a “strategic partnership” between Turkey and Syria, and Ankara’s alleged military supply agreement with Hezbollah.

During last week’s discussions over a new NATO missile defense shield, Ankara demanded that non-NATO members (primarily Israel) could have no access to intelligence gained through the missile shield’s radar system, to which the U.S. reportedly agreed.
