Lieberman blasts Turkish PM's 'lies,' says Ankara doesn't want to mend ties

Published 02:38 27.12.10

Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman lashed out yesterday at Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his foreign minister, Ahmet Davutoglu, accusing them of spreading lies and false accusations about Israel.

In conversations with close associates, Lieberman said he did not think the two had any real desire to repair Turkey's relationship with Israel. "We don't need to be their punching bag," the aides quoted him as saying.

What infuriated Lieberman above all was Davutoglu's assertion on Saturday that Israel would not have rushed to help Turkey the way Turkey assisted Israel during the Carmel fire earlier this month.

Speaking at the opening of the annual convention of Israeli ambassadors, Lieberman declared, "I'm no longer willing to tolerate the lies we hear from Prime Minister Erdogan, who goes to Lebanon and threatens Israel, or the lie the Turkish foreign minister uttered yesterday - that Israel would have taken several days before sending aid to Turkey. In 1999, we sent 240 people to help victims of the earthquake in Turkey."

Davutoglu's statement "shows what kind of people those Turks are," he added, referring to Davutoglu and Erdogan.

Yeah, welcome to the real world. Read the rest here:

Oh dear - Lady O's fallen out of love with Israel (again) now! Now she loves them, now she don't ... lol!

From the House of Commons - Foreign Affairs - as long ago as just after the GCs rejected the Annan Plan ... (note the lack of quotation marks around 'TRNC')
International recognition of the existence of the TRNC would remove the difficulties between Turkey and the EU with regard to the Cyprus problem. Cyprus would drop out of the equation. Turkey could recognise both the TRNC and the Republic of Cyprus.

Essentially this is to propose a two-state solution to the problem. The other way it could be brought about would be by the recognition of the TRNC (now to be known as the Turkish Cypriot State) by Islamic and Arab states. Of this the Greek Cypriots are very afraid: it would be recognition of the Turkish Cypriot State within its present borders. The chances of their being able to recover territory to which they clearly have a right could become very slim. It is not a development that would open up the TRNC to Europe, but it could start a process of creeping recognition. Not being very religious, most Turkish Cypriots would not necessarily welcome this Islamic and Arab recognition for what it might bring with it, but it would be preferable to isolation or absorption by the Greek Cypriots. Nor might Arab and Islamic intrusion into Cyprus be acceptable to the West for strategic reasons.

Afraid, yes. But it would seem that some are hell bent on bringing about the very thing they are afraid of (again).

That's just a letter submitted by a certain "Professor Clement Dodd" who has an interesting background...

Clement Dodd was born in Chester, England in 1926. After a year at London University, where he learned Turkish and Persian, he served in British military intelligence in the Far East and the Middle East, which made him realize that many more people have probably died from politics than from any known disease. Consequently he turned to the study of history and politics, as well as furthering his studies in Turkish. He later lectured in politics, becoming professor of politics in the University of Hull, and then professorial fellow in politics(with special reference to Turkey) in the School of Oriental and African Studies in London University where he established a Modern Turkish Studies Programme, and revived the Turkish Area Study Group,of which he is a council member. He is a former president of the British Society of Middle Eastern Studies, and has been a visiting professor at the Middle East Technical University and Bilkent University, both in Ankara, and at Boğaziçi University, Istanbul. He contributes regular updates on the Cyprus conflict to the Turkish Area Studies Review. His main interest in Turkish politics is in the problems of Turkish democracy

Anatolians see US and Israel as biggest external threat, poll results show.

http://www.hurriyetdailynews.com/n.php? ... 2011-01-05

Funny.. they get 90% of their terrorist arms funding from the US.
They used US weapons to invade CY, US weapons and aircraft to stage terrorist strikes against PKK freedom fighters... doesn't add up.
