...indeed "gifted" to the Turks, (and to the Russians), Syria.

It is hard to see the benefit to America, while Syrians (read: Kurds) throw rotten potatoes at their leaving trucks.

ZURICH (Reuters) - Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan should be investigated and indicted for war crimes over his country’s military offensive in Syria, former prosecutor and U.N. investigator Carla del Ponte said in an interview published on Saturday.

“An investigation should be opened into him and he should be charged with war crimes. He should not be allowed to get away with this scot free,” she told the Swiss newspaper Schweiz am Wochenende in an interview.

This is always an option for Trump to pursue in the future if Erdogan doesn't play ball.

Some say Trump did brilliantly by shifting all the responsibilities in Syria to Russia and Turkey just after few days of fighting. The oil fields are secured under the USA control, Russians and the Syrian army are in the north eastern Syria and the Kurds /YPG are secure below the 30km line from the Turkish border. All the cost for rebuilding Syria is left for the Russians and Turks to deal with, some estimating to as much as $500 Billion. The Arabs and the EU has washed their hands off Syria's rebuilding effort because Turkey choose to unilaterally invade for few days to grab some Syrian land and a lot of headache. I guess Trump was right to tell Erdogan in his letter for him not to be a "tough guy" and "be a fool" by invading Syria. This was of course like a red meat to a lion so Erdogan just had to take the bait, and he did and he invaded. Now he owns more problems.

What now, now that Erdogan has got some land and the Russians only 10k from the Turkish border and the airspace is closed by the Americans both to Turkey and the Russia in the North-East Syria?
