"... Nikos Michaloliakos, general secretary of the Golden Dawn party, faces charges of leading a criminal organisation whose offences allegedly include physical assaults against immigrants, blackmail and money-laundering.

In what was seen as a tactical move to hamstring the party's command and rising popularity in a country plagued by an economic crisis, Mr Michaloliakos and his top deputies were the first to be arrested in the early hours of the morning.

Some 35 warrants were issued against party members, and 17 arrested on charges of forming a "criminal organisation..."

Well it looks like the game is up for GD!

It sounds like a carefully planned and executed sting operation by the Greek Authorities that had GD and its activities under heavy surveillance over a long period.

Once they had got all the evidence needed to put senior figures away for a long time, the Authorities Declared it a criminal organization and the Terrorist Police pounced.

A lot of faith is being restored here...

The irony will not be lost on Greeks who know their history and its tendency to repeat itself.

- After years of tyrannical rule, the enemies of Athens charged a gadfly with corrupting the youth ...

Well this gadfly just got charged with leading a criminal organization. Other charges include, multiple assaults, money laundering, blackmail and perhaps an array of other lesser charges!

Looks like the gadfly will be off to gadfly prison!

GD as a gadfly ... a very necessary gadfly ...

A gadfly upsets the status quo by posing upsetting or novel questions.

The term "gadfly" (Ancient Greek: μύωψ, mýops) was used by Plato in the Apology to describe Socrates' relationship of uncomfortable goad to the Athenian political scene, which he compared to a slow and dimwitted horse.

During his defense when on trial for his life, Socrates, according to Plato's writings, pointed out that dissent, like the gadfly, was easy to swat, but the cost to society of silencing individuals who were irritating could be very high. "If you kill a man like me, you will injure yourselves more than you will injure me," because his role was that of a gadfly, "to sting people and whip them into a fury, all in the service of truth." This may have been one of the earliest descriptions of gadfly ethics.

In modern politics, a gadfly is someone who persistently challenges people in positions of power, the status quo or a popular position. For example, Morris Kline wrote "There is a function for the gadfly who poses questions that many specialists would like to overlook. Polemics are healthy."

A quick scan of some British papers suggest there has been a change in attitude towards GD.

The papers which famously labelled GD as "Neo-Nazis" are now using terms such as "neo-fascist" or "anti-immigrant" or simply "far-right".

By the end of the week these papers will do a U-turn and will be criticizing Athens' decision to make these arrests and blaming the Greek government for not allowing free speech etc

These terms were always in use and it was a sad day for Greece when this group of criminals were able to gain so much power amidst all the mayhem.

Now is a great day for Greece because the long arm of the law is tapping these fascist criminals on the shoulder!

Zionists satisfied with GD arrests.

ACJ executive director asks for tough measures against Golden Dawn, praises arrests

Without a doubt, they are the ones pulling the strings and have orchestrated these bogus charges against GD members.

Judging by all the positive news feeds around the globe, I think it is more accurate to say that most countries are quite pleased with what the Greek Authorities are doing. :D

GD are history!

70,000 Greek Jews were murdered in the Nazi Death Camps in WW2. ... and the Nazi sympathisers like Toffoui and "g"IG go out of their way on here to defend Golden Dawn.

How revolting...!!!

The Pres of the World Jewish Congress had these sensible words to say a few days ago, before the clampdown...

"...Greece’s democratic forces “have a moral obligation to unite against Golden Dawn leaders”, especially those who “publicly incite to crimes, preach hate against minorities, deny and belittle the Holocaust, or viciously assault people based on the color of their skin, their ethnic background, or their political views,” declared Lauder. He lamented that, despite assurances given to him and others by Prime Minister Samaras and members of his government, no concrete bill has been adopted by the Greek governing coalition due to internal disagreements.

"There can be no legitimate place in the Greek parliament for parties whose public statements and actions are racist or anti-Semitic and who operate in many ways like the Nazis did seventy years ago. If legislation is insufficient to deal with such organizations and individuals, it ought to be strengthened, because the people of Greece deserve to be protected from the forces that seek to destroy liberal democracy and reject even basic civil rights,” said the WJC president..."
