Better watch it because if anyone starts bombing the Kurds, we declare no fly zones! Trump will do the honours too!

Right after he gets a big fucking huge slap in the face from the CIA.

No fly zones are our forte.

I am amazed how Cypriots are now Erdog supporters. Well traitors, what drugs are you all taking?

There was a very long and insightful interview that appeared at the end of last year in what is virtually the final remaining opposition newspaper in Turkey, Cumhuriyet (which may not have long left to go) with Turkish international affairs expert Prof. Dr. İlhan Uzgel in which he made the following points about Syria:

• There was a deal done between Russia and America in 2013. Under the deal, Assad gets to stay but the Kurds retain their autonomy in the north of the Syria and come under American patronage.
• He says this strategy has been a great success for the Americans, both because they have seen to it that Syria has been reduced to rubble and so the Russians are not left with much of value under the control, while the Americans now have their own troops stationed in seven places in the north of Syria and they are constructing an airfield there, things that it would previously have been unthinkable for the Americans to do in Syria.

(Interview in Turkish)

I am starting to wonder if the purpose July’s coup attempt in Turkey was to pressurise the Erdoğan regime to abandon its Neo-Ottoman dreams in Syria and to start cooperating with the new plan, which includes cooperating with Russia (the pressure being applied by the Americans). Just a conspiracy theory, but it fits all the facts.

You better take a read of Tim's post. It's plausible!

But let me give you a tip. Coalition is in Syria. It is there to stay. Whatever games are being played now, we have a client in Syria which we can't abandon. This client is not Turkey's friend.

You lost the war. To keep Assad, we get a third of Syria. You tell me who wins!

We also get the oil and gas. Our forces have surrounded Raqqa and a ground assault is only a matter of when not if.

There was an opportunity to keep a unitary state but that's all over now.

Just food for thought of course, based on one man's opinion and another's speculation.

The Kurds have been incredibly loyal to the Coalition. They have been our most dependable ally.

What they have achieved against the ISIL thugs was incredible. Coalition owes them a lot.

It's time for them to collect their reward now.

Well it's a well thought out opinion and it fits incredibly well.

Also explains a lot about the situation in North Syria.

I have another thought that Turkey is seeking to attack the Kurds. And that they are using the Russians as leverage. There will be a lot of trouble if that happens.

Coalition is now a major stakeholder in Syria. Any peace deal will have to have our signature on it otherwise there will be no peace until objectives are met.

I have heard another theory from somebody whose view carries a bit of weight - I can't think who - that the Russians and Turks have done a deal by themselves and the sweetener for the Turks (or at least the criminal Erdoğan regime) is that the Kurdish entity in north Syria gets annihiliated, which also suits Assad and the Russians.

PS - A shame that most people here can't see that Putin is not the defender of all things Orthodox and so the Greek Cypriots, but just looks after number one like anybody else, and if that means entering an alliance with their number one enemy, Erdoğan, that's exactly what he'll do (and I am sure he's really still an atheist anyway!).
