Russian and Turkish jets in joint operation over Syria

Postby Tim Drayton » Thu Jan 19, 2017 6:36 pm

"Russian and Turkish jets have carried out their first joint strikes on so-called Islamic State (IS) inside Syria, the Russian defence ministry says."

Interesting development, no?

I reckon Turkey is Putin's whipped puppet now. Probably forced to tow Putin's line since Erdogan lost his war to oust Assad.

Looks like the Americans/Brits/Australians etc have all abandoned the area and all-alone-Erdogan is doing what he does best in defeat - grovel to the Russians!

Rather timely and before Trump gets in and uses Turkey as an excuse as to why NATO should be dissolved .... Erdogan's kneeling in Hagia Sofia tonight, lighting a candle for Orthodoxy to save him.

Putin ain't daft! I see a friendship of convenience ..... it will not last too long. Unless Erdogan throws the US out of their Turkish air base, then he will do what Putin tells him to do!

Now that would be really interesting, I wonder what price the US would pay for a base in a nearby State?

  I wouldn't discount that out of hand. Plenty of room for a few more at Akrotiri? Although the little brown envelopes would need to be suitcases to get their Island hosts to agree to it! They might even join NATO ..... that would please Paphitis!

Only problem is that the Coalition hasn't abandoned the area and is operating within Syria unhindered to achieve other objectives.

You know what they are, and it isn't going to be in Turkey's interests or Russia's or Assad's these objectives that they have.

Coalition is helping Turkey's enemies too.

Problem for the regime, is that they can't control Syria. They have lost Palmyra and ISIL just destroyed a Roman Amphitheatre. Coalition is filling the void and controlling the Northern third of Syria. Turkey can't step on Coalition toes.

Hiding behind Pootin will do them no good.

Coalition isn't interested in defeating ISIL in Syria. Coalition only interested in Raqqa. As for ISIL, that will be a fight for Pootin, and the regime to win while Coalition predominately watches.

It does not serve our interest to help the regime while Israel bomb from the South.

BTW, you forgot the French who btw have more Air Power there than Russia does.

Btw, stop pretending to be on Russia's side. I don't believe you of all people would support Pootin and his actions.

And behold this "friendship of convenience" between Russia and Turkey.

A friendship which Turkey thinks will allow it to invade and destroy Kurdish Groups in Syria, something which never got any traction with the Coalition because the Coalition consider the Kurds as Friendlies.

There you have it my patriots. You are now in bed with Pootin, who is in bed with Erdog and who wants to kill off the Kurds.

Cool huh?

Unfortunately for Pootin and Erdog, any invasion of Syria's northern third will risk war with Coalition. That's our patch now!
