In 2.5 years I have yet to find somebody who extols the virtues of the EU and membership, rather than “The end is nigh” posts regarding leaving.

The current doom mongering being brought to you from the self same people who in early 2016 gave us:

In the event of a leave vote:

An immediate deep recession, requiring an emergency budget.

500,000 increase in unemployment.

Eye watering increases in tax and interest rates.

A freeze or reductions in pensions.

Etc, etc, etc.

Britain was always the odd one out of the ECC/EU with their cringe worthy love affair with the US, their non participation in the eurozone speaking volumes, their non geographical attachment to the European mainland, their feeling of superiority to other Europeans, and their overall un-European attitude over the decades, so I reckon they should fuck off from it.

So will they be better off leaving the EU?

It’s too complex for anyone to calculate with any level of accuracy, but I for one couldn’t care less anyway… and I do suspect that the EU will be better off without them.

i dont remember anybody claiming that there would be any significant difference. I seem to remember that the predictions were after leaving.
now I do remember:
1 - 350 million a week saving for nhs. in reality that figure did deduct the rebate nor how much money eu pays back to the depressed areas of the uk and the farmers too
2 - we were promissed there will be no freedom of movement
3 - we would be able to get a free trade deal with the eu.
4 - no mention how much tax we will pay for selling into eu and how much tax our people will pay for buying from the eu.

now all three were complete lies. when it comes to unemployment we certainly will feel the effect after we leave. dperession and banks rates too

of course uming that we do indeed leave. i cannot see that happening.

currently in the house of commons there is no majority for the may deal or hard berixt but there is a majority for remain. so unless there is a new elections and bresixters become a majority it will not happen. and of course may will not hols another election which means they will delay berixit till after the next election. there is a possibility that may will appemt to force a hard brexit through the house at which point she will lose the no confidence motion.

That would make much more interesting reading.

Hasn’t made much difference to me to be honest. Was an eu citizen before Cyprus joined. If you’re asking if other Cypriots have benfitted then yes, I’ll tell you that the euro for euro infrastructure financing that Cyprus has received pushed the country through leaps and bounds. The economic crisis had little to do with the EU and the Cypriots should thank god that the troika took charge and reformed in the manner they did.

Bullshit they benefitted.

You got your arses sold from under you mate. Your National Debt is in Euro, and the country got screwed for it.

No Quantitative Easing or control from your own Central Bunk which is more or less a defunct institution for you.

The USA and Australia are very proud Nations. Same with Canada.

The look upon the EU as some Frankenstein. The find it an affront to their own Nationhood and they would be right.

How Britain fits in this is unclear because their relationship with the US has no bearing on their EU relationship. The Americans and Australians like using the EU for Free Trade so they can see their products and produce. That is without being a member. They get all the fruit without ANY of the sacrifice.

In addition, the relationship with France, Germany, and others like the Scandinavian Countries is also the equivalent to the UK. Australia for instance at the moment has closer military ties with France than with the UK. These relationships are in a constant state of flux. Right now, the French are building the new submarines for the French and Australian Navy. We are talking about state of the art boats that will be at the pinnacle of capability. Highly secretIve. About 3000 French Engineers are moving to Adelaide for the next 25 years. This is the biggest defence contract on the planet. Only to be surpassed when Trump announces the next generation of US Aircraft Carrier.

There will be benefits. For instance, the UK will be freed from EU Regulation and buearocracy. This will have tangible benefits but to what extent, no one really knows.

Other benefits are that they would better control who enters their country and who will attain permanent residency.

There will be tangible benefits but no one will be able to quantify the benefits until the BREXIT occurs. That however doesn’t stop the doomsayers from the remain side to spread their propaganda, and lies. Both sides are capable of lieing actually and spreading propaganda, but none are as good and organised as the remainers. Teresa May is a remainer, but as a PM she has the duty of seeing BREXIT through. In fact, any future British PM has the same duty because that is what the people voted for. Even if they are remainers, they are bound by the democratic duty and will of the people. A Contract which must never be violated.

As to the NHS. Well yes, there is migration to the UK purely because Britain has close to the best Health System in Europe, and also lets not forget social security. The Brits will be better able to control that, but what is it worth is hard to tell.

You got to remember that if all the migration remained unchecked, then there would come a time when the UK Government can not provide Health or an NHS without ending up like Greece.

So yes, the choice needed to be made. Might not affect you now, but it would have affected your children and grand kids.

Cyprus didn’t have a banking crisis (clues in the name  )cause of its national debt mate....I’m really getting tired of people living in obscure and insignificant countries pretending they know how things work in Europe.

It didn’t?

So DT, please explain the Banking Collapse, and the sudden increase in the Cypriot National Debt to 110% as a result of the Banking Collapse?

Cypriots will be paying for that for generations.

It wasn’t all the EU’s fault. Much of it was self inflicted to a large extent, but not having your debt in Cypriot Pounds did not help you at all. In fact, the collapse would have been as a result of that and the inability to Quantitively Ease your debt and currency.

But you were not screwed as much as Greece was. They too would have been better off with the Drachma. Their National Debt is 170% of GDP.

Paphiti, if you’re going to stay on this forum you’ll at some point need to do some reading cause your general knowledge is shite.

Leading up to the banking crisis Cyprus’s national debt was 79%
The debt shot up following the transfer of legacy assets. The highest it’s been because of this has been 107 and now it’s at 97%

No banking collapse Paphitis… it’s called “investing” 7 billion in a foreign country while it's in a freefall.

Now they know it doesn't work...
