Can anybody explain why a renewable energy company should be forced to charge more for energy that what they wish to charge and still make a good profit.

Nuclear and renewable producers are making very significant excess profits because the price of gas has rocketed, but their costs of production have not. These profits have prompted calls for a windfall tax on them.

So how does the Energy Market work exactly.

When it was privatised it was split into three sectors.

There is the:
Producers - individual power generating companies of all sorts
Distributor - National Grid PLC: a single company responsible for distributing gas and electricity to the homes
Retailers - about 20 companies who are responsible for collecting the money from the users

So how come if the price of gas goes up by x percentage amount, the price of electricity goes up by the same percentage when gas production cost is only one third of the final price we pay?
