As one gets older they become wiser and realize that some things they considered important in their younger days are just ....shit. i have always loved Jaguars, once only I had a Merc. My current Jag which I have had since 2003 is by far the best car I have had. Before that i had an XJ12, 12 FUCKING cylinders, two tanks for petrol, one on either side. How fucking stupid I must have been. 8 miles to the gallon, it gave me nothing but trouble. Im now considering buying a Donkey in order to blend in with all the other donkey rides on Cyprus roads.

You guys don't like big cars because you don't like paying the registration, so you leave the big stuff to us where driving real cars is our God given right

The longest drive in Cyprus is about 2.5 hours and most towns and cities are full of potholes and speed humps.

Parking is also becoming increasingly difficult as each house has 2-3 cars with one parked in the driveway and the rest out on the street!

So the best cars for Cyprus are the 1.3ltr to 1.5ltr 4 cylinder, 5-door hatches like the Toyota Yaris.

They may not look “cool” but if you want to be practical and economical, that’s what’s ideal for Cyprus.

Oh and as a very useful bonus, such cars effortlessly convert to a mini-van! :D

ie: You can fit a 6-chair dining table in the back… I’ve done it with a Honda Jazz!

You are talking about practical cars.

I could never survive in a little car like that. I do like my motoring very much and love cars, but not for pretentious reasons.

In Adelaide we are so lucky as well because if you have that nice performance car you can actually track it on an actual certified Grand Prix track.

That’s where all the petrol heads go.

There’s a misconception that such cars are “small” but on the inside they’re not small at all, and they certainly don’t feel small when you drive them.

If you take away a sedan’s long boot and elongated front… you’ve got a modern hatch ready to take all the punishment you can give it!

I used to drive a 6 cylinder sports car in Perth but that’s only because I was young and stupid. The older you get... the wiser your decisions.

Yes I understand what you are saying, but I just couldn't do it, even if I was in Cyprus.

In Cyprus, I would buy something like an ISUZU DMAX or something. I just like my road trips too much. May not be so important, but I just like driving from an elevated position now as well. And that ISUZU is just a superior vehicle that is great quality - even better than any of the European cars, unless you go AMG or M3.

isuzu dmax has an amazing begging. It's the same engine they use on their light trucks and it isn't uncommon for them to do well over 1 million.

Those smaller cars are probably only good if you don't leave the Metro areas - only use it for shopping an d dropping kids off at school and sport, but for anything else they are not really ideal for big trips, camping, holidays and so on.

I couldn't do it to even drive around the city.

...i am curious what you will buy Paphitis; what with the electric pick-up trucks coming very soon: it may be worth waiting. Having owned such trucks now over 35 years, i cannot imagine driving in comfort otherwise. Options for such vehicles range broadly, one uniquely suited to your individual need is possible. A 4 X 4 is essential, the weather in the north-east says it all, if you want to depend on getting around, safely. And in my opinion it is always worth spending for a 3/4 ton, rather than a 1/2 ton, you will find your truck may last much longer...

Americans can make great cars and light trucks are a lot of fun and practical for getting away. And yeh, I'd rather be in one of them than a small car, fitted with all the accessories and allowing you to load and get away as quickly as possible for the warmer south and west.

America is a massive country. You need that set of wheels just to get around.

Yes of course. The Electric and Hybrid market is developing strongly and Ford is coming out with a Hybrid with massive torque. Yes I would consider it.

But the Americans have some motoring pick up porn - like the Silverado which is pretty impressive and expensive.

...the threat however is real.

...a very realistic hypothesis for a "Federalised" Ukraine which has as a result a central Government which is not likely to have the capacity to do more than defend itself.

Ukraine is doing exactly what Cyprus did since 1960. They are antagonising the Russians and they will get wacked again. What the fuck on earth made them think they can join Nato without Russians agreeing to it?

Cyprus was the same, they wanted to join Greece and ignored TCs and Turkey and they got what they what was coming to them.

Strangely at the root of the problem was exact same thing. In the background was the Yanks trying to bring Cyprus into Nato through the backdoor. In this case they are trying to bring Ukraine in through the front door. As to the current president of Ukraine should be hung from a tree for being too stupid.
