Good bit of news today

Postby Lordo » Wed Jul 05, 2023 8:05 pm

I have been waiting for such news for some time.

The sun smiled on us today.

A Turkish Cypriot with American citizenship cornered the Republic of Cyprus, forcing it not only to return his property in Limassol, but to compensate him with an additional €345,000 for its use. We also separate his properties for free.

Does anybody have any idea how many and how much property is involved? If anybody can point me to an English link regarding this court case, I would be grateful.

...indeed Cyprus remains Cypriot; not "Greek", not "Turkish".

...in deed Greeks demonstrate, they are not "Greeks"; as it should be.

@lordo
This article gives more info.

I had spoken to my GC lawyer again few months ago about my mother’s land in the ROC and was informed that there has been a new Case Law where it makes it possible for more TCs to claim their properties back if meeting certain requirements. He may have been referring to the above court case, I do not not. We are in the process of providing more info to the lawyer as requested in his email to me few weeks ago.

This particular was based on the fact that he did not have any Cypriot Citizenship so the Organisation set up to protect the abandoned TC lands should have never taken it over. As far as I am aware, and I had this from a GC lawyer, any land they have taken from TCs who left Cyprus before 1974 or that their village has not been abandoned should also not have been taken. My understanding is also that they do not have to wait 6 months to get their property back any more so long as they qualify. Of course another requirement is that individual must not hold any GC property in the north.

But I would be interested in any info you have from your lawyer as to what the situation is currently.

I would also be very interested as to the size and nature of his properties that he was given not only his land back but also compensation of 345,000 Euros.

My family has lots of properties that were taken illegally.

Yes, of course, Lordo. I will keep you posted as things develop, but as you know, these things move very slowly.

At the very least, in order to be able to get the properties back, it is important that TCs who own property in the ROC were not in Cyprus when the 1974 war broke out, which in my family’s case, we were all out of Cyprus by 1968.

Also, there needs to be a probate done in the ROC to divide up the properties owned by my grandparents, but all of my mother's siblings and herself are now dead. Except for my mother, her other siblings took GC properties in the north against their share of the deeds of property in the ROC after an informal “probate” that was done in the north, to divide up the properties and they also remained in Cyprus before 1974 war and after. You can see the challenges for the lawyers moving forward. However, due to new Case Law which came about recently, it may make it easier for us to get new deeds in the ROC for my mother’s share of her family’s properties.

My family ALL have ROC citizenship since 1960, so there’s no issue with the citizenship factor for us as the case was in the above article.

This fellow not being a citizen actually worked to his favour.
But in reality to things are needed.
1. You should have been out of Cyprus before 1974
2. You should not have exchanged your property for GC properties.

In my family case, nobody has exchanged but as you say we need to do first a search to make sure we have not missed any properties and then do Probate and then of course apply. It sounds as the transfer was done without any payment of taxes too.

If anybody can find out information regarding taxes and how much property this fellow had would be really useful. Also if anybody can suggest a GC lawyer that is decent and has offices in both Cyprus and London would be very helpful too.

I looked at that Cyprus Mail page and it is incredible. Only 20 cases has been resolved and the government has paid out 25 Million Euros. That's on average 1.25 million Euros per person. Naturally those of us with more property will get a little more.

Shiit man I am a millionaire and I don't even know it. I will never hear the end of from my friend here. If he despised me before I don't know how he will feel about a socialist having so much money. Perhaps he can let us know what kind of flowers he prefers for his funeral. This may well finish him ooooooofffffffffffffff.

My mother is still waiting to get her property that was stolen by the Turks.

Any comments for all the GC s who had their properties stolen from them too.

They were not citizens of the "TRNC" or Turkey when their property was stolen by the former either, just like this guy.

Good bit of news isnt it bordo, sounds like you had your cake and eat it today too and forgot about being an activist for refugees.

Shut your fucking mouth you cunt.

I have always supported the settlement of the refugee issue. There was a plan on how to do it back in 2004 but cunts like you said no to the plan. 100,000 GCs would have returned to their property and 60,000 would have got compensation.

My heart is always with all refugees including in Jenin refugee camp and what they are suffering today.

You are forgetting, TCs did not do a coup and replace the elected president. Your fuckin brain should look at the problem rather than just look at Turkish invasion at your invitation. Especially back in 1963 when the TCs were reduced into 3% of Cyprus.

Just fuck off.
