The Cyprus summer reminds me of that Swatz-his-name movie where he’s in a glass domed world over on Mars and gets out for some reason, and starts getting cooked out in the open on the sand dunes, and his eyes start popping out!
I’ll never forget that horrid scene... that’s how I feel every summer on the island of geckos and beetles.
I have driven through Death Valley many times. Very fascinating place, especially in the summer where it gets very hot, 50+C, and when the wind blows, it like a full power hair dryer blowing in your face. It has the lowest point in the USA, “Bad Water”!
Why would someone want to drive through there?
How long a drive was it and what precautions did you take?
You know if you get stuck there you’re dead!
You’re a higher risk taker than I had you down for...
I would take road trips to Las Vegas from San Francisco via Death Valley, with an overnight stay at Mammoth Lakes (8,000+ft) during summer months driving over the Yosemite Parks’ Tioga Pass at 10,000ft, dropping to Mono Lake. Beautiful scenery. Death Valley drive through would take about 4-5 hours with lunch at Furnace Creek. There is one main Park Ranger station and Visiters Center and a petrol station at Furnace Creek too. One needs to drive over couple of passes at 4,000-5,000 feet. Amazing landscapes at different locations in Death Valley. US Air Force jets often practice there too with low passes across the valley floor. Just need to make sure you have plenty of water, fuel and a working air conditioning. If a break down, stay with the car and don’t wander off for God sake. There are Air and Road patrols by the Park Rangers to bring help if stranded. Just stay with the car.
I have taken far bigger risks in life than driving through Death Valley in hot summers!
