It is alleged that they are not being prevented from returning from the Greek Border by Turkish authorities.

Buses are taking them away.

The Greeks will probably build a stronger wall now.

This may well be Erdogan’s version of “goodwill” before he has his teleconference with some EU leaders on the 17th. He will say, “you see, I can make these fake migrants do what I tell them to do, and that I can make things really bad for the EU unless you give me what I ask.”

The EU’s leaders will reply in kind by saying, “we are going to bring the Gatling guns to the Greece/Turkish border next time, so go ahead and make our day”!

Lets see, but this can go the way you are thinking.

I think Erdo is going to have major domestic problems in the not too distant future to deal with too.

Its just a matter of time before the lira hits an all time low again. Its Almost guaranteed to happen, compounded by the corono virus and a dry tourism season. Turkeys financial defenses are also weaker than the last time.

People are going to be rioting on the streets and there will be more punch ups in parliament.

The man needs to disappear from politics and new politicians have to salvage turkeys image and solve all the domestic and international problems with neighbors that have been piling up. Which will probably take decades.

I think it's related to the potential risk from corona virus. It's one thing threatening to send migrants to Europe but when there's a risk that some may be carrying the virus to the EU I think the threat is taken much more seriously by Merkel and co. A subtle counter threat to Erdogan to suspend the customs union and other economic measures has probably brought Erdogan to his senses. Turkey relies on European tourists to boost its foreign income, a bit of non-fake news about Turkey's dubious corona virus figures (does anyone really believe them?) would cost that country billions of lira.

It is all to do with interest rates,

The previous governor of the central bank hiked them massively to try and suppress inflation that started running rampant. However, this doesnt create an environment that encourages borrowing to fuel economic growth. through cheap credit and debt. This is one of the main reasons for Turkeys economic growth.

if you notice, the lira stabilized and started coming off its 2018 lows when interest rates were aggressively hiked up over a period of about 6 months. It never got to pre-crisis levels but the signs of a recovery were there. Erdo didn't like that, then the previous governor of the central bank got fired because he disagreed with Erdo's economic theory and demands for lower interest rates.

The previous central bank governor was right but this institution lost its independence to Erdo's radicalism like many others.

Around this time, foreign capital started to quietly leave the country.

Then Erdo put a puppet in there to do what he wanted. Interest rates started coming down to create a cheap borrowing environment again to help drive economic growth. And the central bank has been slashing interest rates any chance it could. Analysts estimate that they will come down even further to single digits at the next announcement.

This while the currency has been diving towards all time lows and gaining momentum.

But Erdo had another genius plan, to waste money supporting the Lira and fight the market. He and his puppet in the central bank thought they could support the market by absorbing lira to defend the $6 mark but the exchange rate cut through this price level after few attempts.

This alone will cause the lira to dive further than 2018's crisis level but now less Europeans see Turkey favorably after this stunt on Greece's border. And the corona virus will also compound a dry tourism season because that might grip the country too. Which basically means less foreign money coming to Turkey and domestic economic hibernation..

The man has fckd up on every front for too long and he has done what he does best lie, deny, blame others and remove any opposition but this wont stop the chickens coming home to roost.

His next plan is to try and get Putin to agree to letting him steal Kurdish oil revenues so he can start construction projects in Idlib....

Danish MP, on the EU's migration policy in a debate in the European parliament..

The majority of MEPs criticised Turkish President Erdoğan for using people’s suffering for political purposes and many of the migrants coming to Europe are not even real refugees. Many also underlined that the 2015 refugee crisis should not be repeated and insisted that the EU needs to update its common rules on asylum.

Turkey is not a friend, it is an enemy. Erdogan is not just a president, but a dictator and a rogue.

Wakey wakey people, rise and shine......its time to smell the coffee.

Well, I think I called this one, that the reason why the gate crashers disappeared from the Turkish/Greece border for a day or two was because of the teleconference yesterday, for Erdogan to show “goodwill” with the EU leaders. A day later, the gate crashers are back on Erdogan’s orders, most probably the EU told Erdogan to go and take a hike and his blackmailing tactics with him. So, if these were genuine asylum seekers, why did they stop trying to get into Greece, and now that the teleconference is over, the gate crashers are back. This is what’s called “fair weather migrants” no? :D
