...it has taken so long for Bakhmut to fall (allegedly), that we have forgotten that this was expected, long ago.

...these are people found on the streets in Moscow; not one sided, judge for yourself their authenticity.

I thought the idea was to blow any bridge's BEHIND you ...... AFTER you withdraw? Or maybe Kyiv blows them up to stop their troops withdrawing so that Zelenskey can claim Bakhmut is still in Kyivs hands?

It sounds like there are numerous bridges into Bakhmut. I imagine destroying them would reduce an attacker’s options, probably forcing him to concentrate his strength in a smaller area.

IIRC the Russians did something similar around Kherson.

I’m sure Paphitis will have a better insight. On his next orbital pass. :wink:

"Russia has not taken control of Bakhmut, says deputy mayor

The deputy mayor of Bakhmut has spoken of the situation in the city saying there is fighting in the streets."

So where is that deputy mayor residing? In Kiev? :lol: :lol: :lol:

Can't really see your point. :? I'm a nobody sitting in Cyprus, just like you. Whilst it seems the game's up there for the Ukrainians, at this moment in time I can say with some confidence that Russia has not yet taken control of Bakhmut.

Location-wise, as is often the case in such matters, we probably have a far better idea of what's going on than the people fighting in the town. Who often won't have a clue what's happening a few blocks away.

Bakhmut seems to have taken on a rationale far beyond any tactical importance. For some time it's acquired a Stalingrad-like symbolism. And whilst the idea's been floated in here (tongue in cheek) that it's all been a deliberate and cunning plan by the Russians to draw Ukrainian troops into a meatgrinder the evidence in bi-partisan reports indicates that the battle has resulted in Somme-level loses ..............for both sides.

Really interesting documentary here:-->
It's not only about the grains but also about the re-industrialization of Zaporichia during the current war time.
Clearly you have to filter out the propaganda and judge for yourself if what's left is impressive or not.
Regardless, it remains to be seen whether those regions will flourish, as parts of Russia after the end of the war, or not...
