It’s nothing like you seem to understand Paphitis, so don't waste your breath.

It’s all about NATO encroachment that Russia has been warning the West about, for many years now.

In fact the West even guaranteed Russia that it wouldn’t happen, but foolish Clinton got the bad ball started.

Your brains are so flawd!

You think that NATO has no right to accept members from willing sovereign nations. NATO membership revolves around 2 factors. The willingness of the sovereign nation to join is the first one, and then, the second factor is the willingness of all current NATO members to accept them.

Ukraine had the willingness to join, but was unsuccessful because NATO members were not unanimous.

Secondly, NATO is not an offensive alliance. it's purely defensive. Russia knows that. There will never be a time when NATO will order any invasion or attack on Russia. You need to familiarise youyrself with NATO's articles.

Now of course, this war can only re-inforce the importance of NATO membership. Any country that does not want to join NATO is literally STUPID. So we have Sweden and Finland joining now. Ukraine should join as soon as this war is over, and join the EU. Cyprus should apply to join immediately. Moldova and Georgia as well.

Your opinion and mine on this matter are of no importance.

What’s important is that Russia interprets NATO memberships on her border as an existential threat and there’s nothing you and I can say that will change their perception.

Their perceptions are what control their actions and hence the likely nuclear response.

What's important is international law Get Real.

And we are on the right side of justice and the law and we are all united.

There are no laws that state Ukraine has no right to join any international alliance or block as a democratic and sovereign country. It's their country, to do as they like and see fit.

This is a matter for Ukraine, and NATO. Not Russia.

You’ll find that the UN Charter justifies Russia’s concerns and reaction.

I’ve posted the relevant section of the UN Charter in the past, but you probably missed it.

No it doesn't. There is no UN Charter that justifies Russia's actions.

Russia is out in the cold I'm afraid.

NATO is a defencive organisation. Not once in its history has it ammmassed any invasion forces near Russia.

The entire purpose and objective of NATO is deterrance to war and possibly the defence of Europe from any outside aggressor.

Your assumptions are not enough Paphitis, and I can't be bothered fetching things for you. (again)

I’m satisfied with what I read and the Russians have already spoken of this early on.

As for your understanding of NATO… it’s nothing short of laughable.

The facts are all in black and white right here.

https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/topics_110496.htm

All about collective defence. Europe has seen darkness before, and NATO is there to prevent this darkness from taking hold once again.

We are seeing the same darkness take hold of Ukraine. Which just goes to prove 1 thing - to maintain peace, stability, and keep war at bay, it is fundamentally impiortant to maintain NATO and for each country to maintain its Armed Forces.
