Well the Turkish Jets are playing war games with the Israeli Jets over Syria. Who knows, they knocked down a Russian Jet, I suspect they can do the same to an Israeli one even if it is an F35i.

I have noticed recently that Turkey and Israel have worsening relations, especially over Israel's declared complete occupation of Gaza.

But a Turkish military offensive against Israel is unlikely and not probable, even though Turkish Foreign minister and President Erdogan are trying to rally the muslim (and international) community around some kind of offensive.

The most likely military confrontations between Turkey and Israel would occur in Syria, where Turkey has expanded its presence and Israel has launched airstrikes against Turkish-linked targets. This could involve proxy clashes, drone strikes, and artillery, but is unlikely. Both sides seem to understand that a direct large-scale war would be disastrous. Turkey is a NATO member, Israel a key US ally, and there is and will be behind the scenes diplomacy to stop it.

Israeli strategic priorities focus on Israel’s security concerns from Gaza, threats from Iran-backed groups, and Syria, but direct conflict with Turkey is avoidable.

The reality is, both countries are involved in regional power plays and military posturing but show restraint in escalating to full-scale military conflict with each other. Israel doesn't need it and Turkey doesn't really have the minerals for it. In reality, what they want is to throw others under the Israeli-US bus, rather than take that action themselves.

The only reasons why the Turks did that was because;

1) They didn't know it was a Russian jet or they are careless,
2) They lack situational awareness and have no restraint,
3) They were emboldened hiding behind uncle Sam's trousers.

I think it was either 1 or 2, because Erdogan went grovelling to Putin very quickly after that incident.

The situation is very different now, you wont find Israeli jets flying close to the Turkish border.

Significant developments, as the United States scrutinizes Turkeys occupation of northern Cyprus

On the 29th August 2025, the US house of representatives introduced amendments to the national defense authorization act (NDAA) that directly address Turkey's ongoing occupation of northern Cyprus.

These amendments reflect growing concern in Washington over regional security and the implications for "US interests" in the region.

Here are the key provisions of the amendment;

A security assessment report to evaluate the security risks posed by Turkey's presence in northern Cyprus, focusing on potential threats to the US, Cyprus, Greece, Israel, and the United Kingdom. Particular attention will be given to the presence of groups designated as terrorist organizations, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, and groups in areas under Turkish control.

Restrictions on arms transfers to Turkey seeks to limit arms sales tied to Turkish behaviour in and around Greece and Cyprus's sovereign sea and airspace, and those already sold are not being use to facilitate the occupation. These restrictions would remain in place for five years unless the US president certifies that Turkey has ended its sovereignty violations. In addition to these amendments, House Resolution 17 was introduced in January 2025, condemning Turkey's illegal occupation of Cyprus and urging the President to prioritize resolving the Cyprus issue in US foreign policy. The resolution calls for Turkey to withdraw all troops from Cyprus and adhere to NATO's democratic principles.

Connection to the situation in the middle east (Israel-Gaza-Iran-Turkey)

The Cyprus measures form part of a broader US strategy to stabilize the eastern mediterranean and limit Turkish actions affecting Israel and its neighbours.
