Done it a hundred times. Been on aircraft with explosives, radioactive materials, Lithium, corrosives, and even with the most venomous snakes on the planet in eskies (they are not a DG).

And I guarantee you, that every flight you have been on has had 1 or more of the above in every flight you have been on. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find a flight without consigned DG. Airlines Madame a lot of money from freight.

Nb. To get a full idea read a few pages before and a few pages after.

Yes you silly foolish person.

Dangerous Goods can be consigned but only by a qualified Dangerous Goods Shipping agent who will pack, label, and follow all consignment procedures and issue a NOTOC and Emergency Response Code.

You can’t consign them or carry them or mislead the airline agent otherwise you have committed a Federal Felon

Btw, I carry firearms too.

This breaks civil aviation rules.

They should find an alternative, like sending such items by cargo or by boat.

I didn't know about this until now.

Well done!

It’s the ICAO Dangerous Goods legislation which has a minimum penalty of $250,000 fine and 7 years imprisonment.

If you get caught in a Western European country, USA, Canada, or Australia you are literally stuffed. It’s a serious violation against the Dangerous Goods Act which all UN member states of ICAO have ratified and governs and regulates the postage and air freight of all Dangerous Goods (not just batteries) within 8 Dangerous Goods Groups. Only qualified shippers with the relevant training can consign Dangerous Goods on aircraft, and these Dangerous Goods need to be packed a certain way, clearly labelled and a NOTOC must be issued or a Notice to the Captain with an Emergency Response Code issued which basically outlines the emergency repoonse procedure related to that consignment. Yes, there is an ERG code which informs emergency services how to react if these items catch fire because some substances can react adversely with water or fire suppressant foam and need dry chemical powder suppressants whilst others might be the opposite. Also a reason why different dangerous goods can’t be mixed in the same cargo compartment as this poses a fire fighting issue.

Also, some dangerous goods can be explosive (certain fertilisers) when they chemically react with other substances. LiPo batteries chemically react when lithoium is exposed to Oxygen. They will ignite. Might as well put a bomb on a plane.

People have been killed because of numbskulls with teeny weeny brains posting teeny weeny batteries!

It’s a real shame numbskull thinks journalists shouldn’t work to the same high standards as the aviation industry. We all know they don’t but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t lift up their socks!

It is certainly a question of professionalism and attention to detail.

I'm sure people would be quite happy to pay €100 per copy of the Cyprus mail because they had employed specialist journalists in every field and a team of sub-editors to spot mistakes!

Your posts become more ridiculous by the minute - I think the trolley dolly will be refusing to serve you any more red quite soon!

Sure! No one has a problem with people following all the procedures and laws and there are a lot of shipping agents that do the right thing. Amazon didn’t do the right thing and hence are under the microscope until they can find a way to follow the DG Act to the letter.

Yes, it would probably cost that much as well as there is a lot of paperwork involved.

It is right!

With regard to radioactive materials, only a very low grade of radioactive items are allowed on passenger aircraft, and only if they meet specific stringent requirements.

Dangerous goods are not permitted on aircraft unless they are packed in a specific manner, are labelled according to the IATA DG Manual, and a NOTOC and ERG is issued and the consignment complies with state and operator policies.

No! I never said any such thing. They should be more accurate and factual. It really isn’t much to ask.

Oh and don’t worry, the “trolley dolley” is looking after me very well. But they know I am on staff travel and am one of them.

But it is...

I pointed out to you that the author of the article also writes on restaurants, entertainment, motoring, pets and just about everything else...

Now you are suggesting that they should be held to the same rigorous standards as the airline industry are you not...?

That would clearly require specialised journalists in every area that the paper reports on - experts in fact. Plus a team of sub editors to check for tiny mistakes or typos.

Are you seriously suggesting that every newspaper (including tiny outlets like the Cyprus Mail) should employ dozens of specialist reporters because you failed to comprehend the meaning of one sentence...?

Mate, you're insane!

I don’t care! The article was incorrect and false, therefore was fake news.

Some professionalism and accuracy wouldn’t go astray!

No I am not defending the indefensibly inaccurate report. If the media can’t get basic facts right, then they have zero credibility.

You may talk about procedures and safety regulations all you like, the truth is those rules and regulations have and are been violated all the time.
Amazon itself has been warned multiple times before they were eventually brought to court.

More over it's clear that even if those regulations are followed to the letter they are not enough

So by your own standards this completely dangerous and inaccurate post is indefensible...?

Paphitis wrote:Well it's very odd there Cap because they are claiming 41m. He would have needed a special Nitrox mix to pull that off and at this man's age it would be bordering on insanity.

Without the Nitrox mix, his blood would have the effervescence of a Coca Cola drink and he would either be in a decompression chamber or dead.

You want to shut down all media outlets but presumably you will still be allowed to publish inaccurate and dangerous remarks without censure...? :?
