There is nothing pathetic here apart from the journalist not dotting his i's, and crossing his t's.

In Aviation terms, it's like landing with the gear up.

It isn't even an article, it is a press release from the dive school...

And the jobbing journalist (who knows less about diving than you know about Nitrox) edited it poorly in his break from reviewing restaurants and reporting on the local football team...

Most of the people that read it would have been non-divers... They would have thought, "How wonderful he can still do that at 90!". A few divers read it and thought, "How wonderful he can still do that at 90! Clearly, that wasn't his bottom time".

It is you, and only you that read that article and failed to comprehend it... just you!

As I said, pathetic.

Really? The dive school wrote that? Well wasn't that misleading of them.

Still, a reputable journalist would verify all the facts before publishing. The journalist is still responsible.

Most media releases contained misleading or embellished half truths and a journalist needs to exercise due diligence.

I thought it was fantastic that a 90 year old was doing this. But I am a factual person and need to know the facts about this dive - I want to know how deep and for how long. And that isn't at all to detract from the person's achievement.

The dive school didn't mislead anybody...

They put out a press release which was reproduced accurately on multiple sites. But the restaurant reviewer at the Cyprus Mail edited it poorly... How thick do you have to be not to be able to comprehend that simple fact...? :?

But then you wanted to know the facts but were unable to do a two-second Google search?

Somebody misled or they were inaugurate and that is a very silly thing to do and I will tell you why.

Not every reader is a dumbed down idiot like you that doesn't ask questions. Some of us need to know some of the technical aspects and we expect accuracy. The CM mentioned 42m for 44m which isn't possible. What they should have said is that a 90 year old dived on a wreck. The diver reached a maximum depth of 42 m for a portion of the dive or for 2 minutes. Or something of that nature.

We are all fed up with media not properly researching their articles and checking the content for accuracy. It happens all the time which is why professional people do not trust the media or rely on the MSM for their facts because on so many times, they just publish nonsense. For instance. My area of expertise is aviation. I have never been able to read a single aviation story I can hang my hat on, so I question their accuracy on EVERYTHING. The same with Medicine, Science and even politics.

They are accountable for what they publish. With journalism like this, the CM undermines itself as a reputable source of information.

These tabloids always say they are pitching to a dumbed down audience (yes that is what they say behind closed doors). I know because my wife is media. But in actual fact, they need to cater to other end.

You are part of the spectrum the tabloids target. I am on the opposite spectrum pure and simple.

You're an idiot...

Repeating the same ridiculous rubbish over and over won't make it true or convince anybody that you're not an idiot.

You made a fool out of yourself over the Nitrox thing, never thinking that somebody more knowledgeable than yourself might read your stupid comments and pick you up on it.

Trying to cover up your stupid and inaccurate statements by blaming the restaurant critic of the CM for misleading you just make you look more stupid.

Get over it.

You are the idiot. You have no argument so now you resort to insults.

Once upon a time we had better journalism - investigative journalism.

Now, 90% of all journalism is pure trash because of gullible people like you.

I am not covering up anything. I don't particularly care either way but don't call me stupid because I know what the CM wrote in their article and understood perfectly that their article was factually false. Which then calls into question everything.

Stupid is as stupid does... And you've done stupid in these comments on an Olympic scale!

Stupid is somebody who expects the Cyprus Mail to be held to the same standards as the aviation industry.

Stupid is somebody who even expects accurate information from the CM and can't manage to do their own research.

Stupid is somebody that types BS about diving in the hope that nobody with diving experience will read it and pick them up on it.

Stupid is somebody who gets found out at being stupid but keeps digging themselves into a bigger and bigger hole nonetheless...

Wrong, I have very low expectations of the CM as a matter of fact. But CM should do better.

I also have low expectations of The Sun, and quite a few other outlets.

But that doesn't mean that the media are not accountable for the words they write. They are accountable and as professionals they should be accurate, concise and to the point.

Their responsibility is to inform the public with real and accurate information.

Same standards as Aviation Industry/ or medical industry = professionalism = safety = trust from the public.

So oit isn't my problem that no one trusts the media anymore.

So come on then Mr. Media Expert...

Explain how the Cyprus Mail would reach the same standards as the airline industry without adding hundreds of extra 'experts' to rigorously examine every sentence on every subject that they report on...? :?

Perhaps the governing body should be holding an enquiry because one bloke read an on CM article linked from the Cyprus forum and didn't understand it...? A full public enquiry perhaps...?

You really are delusional!

Oh, I am no media expert. I am just a consumer of media that expects some professionalism, and accuracy but sadly there are not that many professional outlets out there that can deliver.

Yes, I expect the same standards as the Airline Industry. It is rather sad that you do think this to be appropriate. Very sad.

Journalists have a big responsibility to the people.
