S-400s has arrived in Turkey. Now what?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Oh bloody hell and I suppose the Russians now are so good they can defy the laws of physics.

A bit like all those secretive weapons they have that can pulverize the Yanks.

And that is why absolutely zero fucks are given by the Brits and the Yanks and the Israeli Air Force.

Zero Fucks! I am sure you can count the amount of fucks given!

Yes the Australians do have the technology to deal with S400. Firstly, Australia has one of the best Early Warning capabilities on the planet with EW-18G Growlers, and Wedgetail AWACS and Poseidon Aircraft.

The whole purpose of the Growler is to actually detect these kinds of weapons and draw their radars and then engage them as targets. It's a force multiplier and it is brutal. The minute they switch their radars on, they have lost. And there is no place to hide. The Growlers actually preceed and look for S300 and S400 systems or any other missile defence systems in the area.

The S400 is NOT the end of the world or a game changer. We can jam the shit out of them rendering them USELESS! We can fire HARM Missiles at their radars as quickly as they are switched on.

Our aircraft operate under a total early Warning and Command and Control environment with accompanying AWACS, so anything that is fired is KNOWN, and defeated to defend our boys and girls and get them home safely. We don't just send F-18s in to die. We control and protect every aspect with our AWACS and Growlers. Only 3 countries had these capabilities in Syria and Australia was one of the 3, offering AWACS and Command and Control to US, British and French aircraft. It's a holistic approach. Our radars can track hundreds of targets and threats simultaneously. Impressive huh? 8)

Our AWACS even communicate with the Russians to de-conflict so there are no mishaps. They are obviously smart enough to not turn their radars as well.

The Americans and Israelis are the same. The Americans can pulverize these S400 in minutes if they wanted to. Here today, gone tomorrow.

There are massive exercises between the Australians and Americans right now and it really is jaw dropping at the firepower the Americans have bought to the table. I don't think they give any fucks about S400s. They are absolutely terrorizing the Chinese navy right now with Australia in toe but again absolutely zero fucks given.

That my friends is how power is projected by small countries like Australia and Israel and why absoluely zero fucks are given when our planes operate near S400 systems. Indonesia has them too but again it doesn't matter.

Things like F-18s, F-35s are just the pointy end.

But the real good shit comes in Command and Control, Jamming, AWACS and Early Warning. That is what you people forget. You seem to think we have none of that good shit to deal with S400 or anything else, when the truth of the matter is that the West considers these areas a major priority and we have the best capabilities in the world to protect our aircraft and provide the best intel, early warning, command and control and jamming.

This is what makes small militaries like the Australian and Israeli Defence Forces extremely deadly and potent to much larger and numerically superior forces like Indonesia and Iran and its the reason why absolutely zero fucks are given.

See! 0 fucks!

I mean Gee, we keep hearing about the S400 but the problem is, you don't seem to see The Pentagon really worried about them. You don't see the Israelis worried either.

0 fucks peoples!

And when I talk about Command and Control I am talking about complete radar coverage where our planes are steered and vectored to their targets. Pilots don't even need to think. Everything is worked out for them. They are children of Magenta Line as well! Just follow the magenta Line. It's child's play.

And here is the kicker, we always have the Russians on the red phone (ok I made that one up) because both sides are eager to de-conflict. Such cooperation and team work with the Russians. Mmmmm They love us we know!

Such great teamwork.

Yeh as if the Brits are gonna worry about S400 in Turkey or Syria when they don't even care about the Buk Systems in Cyprus which are probably a lot more dangerous.

Anyone ever wonder why the Russians never sell the S300 and S400 to Syria?

Anyone care to have an intelligent guess? No! Wanna pretend then not knowing why Pootin wouldn't sell these weapons to their sponsored regime?

OK, i guess ignorance is bliss.

It's because Assad is such a fucking idiot, he would probably engage these weapons against Israeli aircraft and the Israelis will have a field day taking them out one by one. The Israelis would 100% target these weapons.

Russians know full well Assad is an idiot. They also know that this idiot has a war with Israel along with their other terrorist Hezbollah State, Iran. And the Russians don't like it. The Russians will bitch slap Syria and Iran themselves for being so stupid! For Russia, it's just about access to the Mediterranean, not some Holy War against Israel which they know could risk everything for them.

And there goes any notion of S400 invincibility in an instant and Billions worth of S300 and S400 exports.

The West is quite happy letting the Russians have access to the Mediterranean. It's just Assad the West don't like and Iran and Israel is a red line for the West as well.

I don't present myself as an expert, certainly not on weapons. I suggest you read Paphitis 'expert' knowledge of weapons systems! Now THERE is an example of hubris driving a dialogue of superiority over all. 'We are invincible, we can do this, we can do that, every one fears us, we have vastly superior technology etc. etc. etc .......... and of course the confidence that everyone else but us is a complete imbecile and we can destroy them if we wanted to! Until ........

I agree!
As an engineer, do you believe that a ground based missile radar in Turkey has the capability to detect and engage aircraft flying in the vicinity of Akrotiri? Because that seems to be what’s being talked about here.

Certainly not on its own! Light, RADAR, radio, even sound follows one simple unarguable fundamental principal of Physics ....... they all travel in straight lines. Even the light in fibre optics travels in straight lines. They all rely on bouncing the signal off something else to change direction. This is where Paphitis bravado breaks down! The Ionosphere varies in both the presented angle to the beam and also varies in height AMSL and both can change in seconds........so it is not accurate enough to identify the location of a fishing boat only that there is an unidentified RADAR image in an area that needs airborne Radar, not relying on the ionosphere, to locate the target with any precision. So, on its own ....NO! With airborne RADAR to see over the horizon and the S-400 RADAR once it gains altitude ..... then probably it could! But why would they want to Attack Akrotiri?

If I were given the problem to solve ..... I would take out the airfield, its facilities and the weapon stores!

Think back to the D-Day landings. The RAF flew aircraft dropping chaff to deceive the German RADAR that the invasion was across the shortest distance. So, you can fool RADAR ..... then it was simple ...... now it is far too complex for us mere mortals to understand and anyone who thinks they are invincible are (could be) in for a big shock if their hubris and conceit overwhelms common sense.
Try to ignore the fact that it’s a super-duper, Dan Dare, Russian radar.

RADAR is RADAR ..... Russian or American, they all follow the same principals of Universal Laws of Physics. Even the expert's can't change that. It is what they do with the information and how they adapt other principals, that makes one weapon more successful than the other. You see, certain self opinionated people shout from within the box totally oblivious of any other view outside ...... others say nothing but they work from outside the box........
BTW. I note the above quote was then followed by............... your expert opinion on the subject.

Not an expert opinion, just a better concept of the laws of physics than some and as such more aware of the limitations imposed.

BTW: Instrumentation works very much on known, proven principals and the Universal Laws of Physics.

As for Banking ...... look around you, see what is happening ....... and I pointed a lot of it out to you some 9-10 years ago ...... and you told me to get a tin-foil hat! Now 80,000 Swedes have got them selves chipped because it's 'COOL' ..... and don't realise they have surrendered them selves to the banking system and eventually the State! The banks are closing branches and ATM's are being removed ...... it was all predictable, if you understood how the banks create money out of thin air and just how much power that gives them!

Thank you. I think :?

Perhaps it's an oversimplified attempt at an explanation but as you indicate, radar is analogous to sight. Both receive and interpret EM radiation. Albeit radar reception is of returns from a transmitted pulse, whilst vision is passive. If you were on the ISS then obviously your visual "range" would extend over many thousands of miles. Conversely, on the ground vision's limited to that returned from your more immediate location, due in no small part to the curvature of the Earth. That isn't too dissimilar to the principle of radar, which is why you simply can't sit in Turkey with a missile system array and "see" aircraft at the sort of range being suggested here.

It does get a bit more complex when frequency's a factor. At very low frequencies radar pulses have more of a tendency to "hug" the earth. The basic principle of long range early warning radars. Such frequencies are not of the band used by (any) missile systems though, let alone mobile ones.

If you can gain height, either in an aircraft or - let's say by placing the Cypriot S300s on Troodos - then of course you are able to take full advantage of the range capability of the missile. Just like you can see further from the ISS.

Sorry if that's "sucking eggs" but not really aimed at you.

No superiority complex over here.

You told us that somehow the S400 is something that should be feared. That British and presumably American aircraft in the east Mediterranean should be very worried about and that aircraft near Akrotiri are in danger of getting shot down from Missiles that are far away.

RAF jets taking off and landing at Akrotiri are unlikely to be in any danger from S400 missiles in Turkey or Syria.

The S400 is just a Missile Defence System. Is it capable? Yes of course it is and it is also dangerous to any foe. But its not as if they will be knocking our birds out of the sky or will change any balance of power because that is not how things like that work. And we do have weapons that can easily counteract weapons like the S400.

Someone told me Australia is weak because they have 100 Tanks. Yes that is true. We only got about 100 Leopard and Abrams but we don't need them. They are literally useless for the types of warfare we would be engaged in either overseas or defending Australia so we don't buy them. We spend big on Submarines, AWACS, Growlers because we know we got
not much of a chance in preventing China or Indonesia landing their troops in Australia. We will not face off with them with some Tanks on our soil. We will face their Tanks with American A-10. We are not going to send our few troops as canon fodder either because that is a warfare we can't win.

You see you can be China with 10,000 Tanks, and they can bring them all to Australia if they like but how do they go against A-10 aircraft? Not very good. You know how many A-10s the yanks have in Australia right now. Their Tankers are coming and going from Brisbane Airport every hour. They got a lot of stuff here right now. :D

Tanks are only one aspect, a bit like the S400. The S400 isn't really what you think it is. Indonesia has them, so we buy Growlers. Why Growlers? Because they are perfect for the S400.

The S400 is not some superior weapon that you seem to think it is.

How do you think the S400 will go against an EW-18G Growler which is specifically designed to look for things like S400? Just a normal question.

You seem to think the Americans are stupid but they are not.

Everything has its match.

What I told you about JORN is completely accurate. JORN is short for Jindalee Over The Horizon Radar.

Now no one really knows for sure, because JORN is a very secretive network and the Australian Government is very cagey about its true capability.

But it's range does vary depending on the climatic conditions from between 1000 to 3000 kms and the beam is bounced from the ionosphere. the RAAF have tried and continue try to beat it. Orions would fly in at 100 to 200FT from the tops of waves and they would get picked up.

Illegal Immigration vessels are rumored to be picked up by JORN. It's not the same as the S400 system.

It's not our only means. We use JORN in conjunction with Spy Satellites, Drones, Wedgetails AWACS, P8-Poseidon and we have a number of Primary Radar facilities as well, like everyone else.

JORN however, isn't really working with the same principles as conventional primary radar. It does bounce off the ionosphere and it does have an over the horizon capability down to the earths surface and it is the only "Radar" that can do it. I don't know what the weaknesses are (and you can imagine that such information would be protected) and to actually get into the building at RAAF Edinburgh where are the signatures are processed, you need a top level clearance. Not many people can get into that building and it is fenced off with razor wire and heavily protected. Not even RAAF Orion and Poseidon crews can go inside it.

https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Jindalee_Op ... ar_Network

Image

We got a lot of stuff like this in Australia. Pine Gap for example is one of the most secretive places on the planet. We even share a Communications Station with the Yanks for our submarines (Harold E Holt in Exmouth). A Station that is purely there to transmit the Nuclear Transmission Codes to USN Submarines.

As I said, we are a small country with a small military tasked with defending an entire continent about the size of Europe, so the only way we can defend our coastline is with being unique. we do have a natural moat, called the Ocean which helps us a great deal, and a very strong Navy and Air Force which are extremely capable.

Having 2000 Tanks isn't going to help us. Things like JORN do.

Here is another interesting fact. JORN is aid to pick up waves or walls of water.

Another interesting fact. The JORN Stations are actually thousands of kilometers inland and one is actually on Australia's Southern Coast near Esperence Perth. And yes, they direct their radio waves into the atmosphere and bounce it down towards the earth from the ionosphere to detect objects and even ocean waves thousands of miles away.

And yes, Australia has used JORN to detect illegal immigrants, Indonesian Fishing boats in our EEZ and they can even detect things like waves and tsunamis. :D

Blah, blah, blah ..... all very impressive ...... but it is all based on the basic laws of physics, not a spectacular discovery by your hero's!

Just as I explained! Look at the footprint ..... area alert only ......direct line-of-sight RADAR needed to locate a specific target within the RADAR foot print. It does not identify a fishing boat ..... it sees an 'anomaly' within a fairly large area, an anomaly that could be anywhere in the footprint, for reasons (other natural phenomena) I have already explained to you!
