When the gas payments stop...

...no growth and inflation should not be ignored either.

In recent years, however, Putin’s approach has changed. More and more, bureaucracy has displaced the high-profile personalities that previously dominated. And as the Russian president has come to rely on these bureaucratic institutions to further his consolidation of control, their power has grown relative to other organs of the state. But it was not until February, when Putin gave the orders first to recognize the independence of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk and then, a few days later, to send Russian troops into Ukraine, that the complete takeover by the new security apparatus became apparent.

...the Kremlin coup; indeed, Putin is a "Russian", no Russian; this is Putin's Russia.

But - don't worry you away team supporters. I'm sure there's lots of good news for the Russian army. As of course there has been for every one of the 78 days so far. :eyecrazy:

So, it turns out that Russia did not lose an entire battalion (if any) in trying to cross the river, but a lot of equipment.......maybe!

Russia suffered 'significant' equipment losses trying to cross a key bridge in a sign of the pressure on its troops, UK intelligence says

Ukraine successfully stopped Russia from crossing a tactically important bridge, UK intelligence said.

Russia suffered a "significant" loss of equipment in its attempt, the Ministry of Defence said.

The "highly risky" attempt shows the pressure faced by Russia to show progress, it added.

Ukraine stopped Russia from crossing a key bridge in the country's east with Russia suffering heavy equipment losses in a "highly risky" operation that shows the pressure its army is under, UK intelligence said.

The UK Ministry of Defence said on Friday that "Ukrainian forces successfully prevented an attempted Russian river crossing in the Donbas.

Ukraine's defense ministry released photos on Wednesday that it said showed Russian equipment destroyed at the Siverskyi Donets river by Ukrainian forces.

Insider has not independently verified the photos which purportedly show the aftermath of the failed assault.

Good evening Kicks. Dave here (well, OK, Rodney :D )

I suppose we could trade links and opinions - ad infinitum - on such events. What's the point though?

Surely, no room for disagreement on it being day 79 of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. During which they've killed many thousands of civilians and destroyed quite a few population centers. No?

Any idea what today's body count of dead Ukrainians is? I keep asking that but there's never an answer. Dead Ukrainians = good news I would have though. :?

Having said that, I appreciate it's just an academic thing to people like us.

Insantity is doing something over and over and expecting a different result.

Russian Military have been trying to build pontoon bridges accross the Donesk River. Each time, the Ukrainian military would bomb the bring with Ri=ussian Armour on it. Sometimes, dozens of Russian Menchanised vehicles would cross, only to see they very grizzly demise after the bridge was destroyed with no where to retreat to.

Sometimes, hundreds of Russian troops would hide in the forrests on the Ukrainian side of the river, only to be hunted down by the Ukrainians like game.

Ukraine has managed to liberate vast areas of the Northern Flank as the Russian military has almost retreated back into Russia in those areas.

Things are unquestionably going Ukraine's way now, with Russia only making very small advances in the far east, but Ukraine Military has destroyed all bridges.

It's almost becoming a bit like target practice for the Ukrainians now.
